This is a sponsored post for Parrot Uncle for which I received compensation. All opinions are my own.   Close your eyes for a moment and imagine the interior of your favorite farmhouse style home. Doesn't it feel warm and homey? As you picture in your mind your ideal farmhouse style home, you are likely seeing a bright open space, filled with things you love in your favorite colors.  Though you are aware of the brightness and charm, you may not necessarily be seeing light fixtures.  That's because when a room or home is well lit with natural light from windows and beautiful artificial lighting, … [Read more...]

This year I'm not going to be celebrating Thanksgiving at home.  But, I cannot pass on the decorating.  A good friend and I were planning a day together and I asked her if I could put together a centerpiece and something fun for her sideboard in her style and do a photo shoot of it at her lovely condo.  She said, "Yes!" My friend decorates mostly with grays and silvers and blacks, and her walls are the loveliest shade of cool blue, warmed with beautiful rich wood floors.  Except for a few red accents, she stays within that color palette.  With that in mind I went shopping. When I'm working at … [Read more...]

Some weeks are just plain fun! This week I got a burst of creativity and had a ton of fun doing a photo shoot at my friend's condo.  I created a centerpiece and a little something for her "sideboard" for Thanksgiving.  She loved it and you get to look forward to seeing all my fun in two upcoming posts. Remember how I mentioned that we might lose all our color due to the wind. Well... there's still color and a lot of it... but I cannot believe all the naked trees. I always think they must feel so embarrassed... standing around for 5 or 6 months without anything on.  No wonder they look so cold. All … [Read more...]

Have you ever felt like you were on the cusp of something new and big? That's how I feel right now.     I can't exactly explain it, but this week God got our attention with some scripture verses that he put in neon lights so we wouldn't miss them. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8  God is the One who gives seed to the farmer and bread for food. He will give you all the seed you need and make it grow so there will be a great harvest from your goodness. 2 … [Read more...]

We had the most stunningly beautiful weekend! The skies were gorgeous with glorious sunsets. It got below freezing on Saturday night, but Sunday was beautiful. We even took a drive down the back roads to do a little leaf-peeping. We didn't have to go far to see spectacular color.  And it's just begun! Next weekend should be amazing.... unless this wind that blows so hard I can hardly stand up straight keeps blowing. It's so strong it might blow off the green leaves as well as the colored!  I hope not! So... what's it like in your neck of the woods? I'm so glad you're here! Each week you bless me … [Read more...]

Trick or Treat is always a highlight as October begins her slide to November. It's always fun choosing candy (that I would like) and giving handfuls out to the princesses and supermen that ring the door bell or call, "Trick or treat!"at my door. Since I'm all about the treats and not the tricks (I'll leave the tricks to those of you who are naturally practical jokers), I've come up with a fun gift or treat container to keep on your desk or display somewhere in your home.  And yes... it's in one of my favorite containers... a mason jar. Today I'm joining with a wonderful group of bloggers to … [Read more...]

Last night I spent the night in a hotel room. It was clean, nicely decorated, and the bed was fairly comfortable. But, while I was laying in bed, I moved my arm against the headboard... and it felt like it was buzzing. There was some sort of low-level vibration in the headboard and I felt it in the bed too. It was a bit disconcerting. When I went to breakfast, I noticed that the room next to my room was labeled, "Electrical." On my return from breakfast the door to that room was open and I peeked inside. On the adjoining wall to my room... right where my bed was... were three enormous breaker … [Read more...]

God is good! That's the comment that many make when something good has happened in their life or in the life of another. We know that goodness is one of God's characteristics. God IS good. All. The. Time.   Examine and see how good the Lord is. Happy is the person who trusts him. Psalm 34:8 NCV   It's interesting to me that the psalmist is suggesting that we examine and see how good the Lord is. You might be more familiar with the verse in another translation.  It's more commonly translated this way. Taste and see that the Lord is good; Psalm 34:8a NIV When was the last … [Read more...]

Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes, and pray at all times.  Romans 12:12   It's been a hard week for me. I won't bore you with the details, but through the difficulties I knew that I could choose joy. And often I did. Choosing to be joyful is a mindset. Some days it's like walking a tightrope with that big long stick.   There's only one way to traverse a tightrope. One step at a time. With our eyes fixed on the finish.     For us as believers... Walking in joy is one step at a time, too. The stick we carry... is … [Read more...]
