Have you been thinking about turning that junk room or guest room into a home office?  Though you may have been forced into the whole “work from home” thing along with many recently, I had been working at home on my little online business for more than eight years.  With a laptop computer, we can work almost anywhere. The couch, the bed, the kitchen table, a little corner somewhere in the house, and in the past maybe the coffee shop, would serve as mini offices.  Where do you set up and go “to work” when you're at home? After moving to this little apartment, my couch was my office for … [Read more...]

March is always a windy month and this week has been like a roaring lion.  It's so good to see the snow melted completely away.  Almost all the ice has disappeared from the small lake here.  I've even seen Snowdrops on my walks and the daffodils are starting to push up their green shoots.  It's been fun hearing and seeing the Sandhill Cranes fly over too.   What a great month!  There's so much anticipation of new life all around us. Though really we only have a hint of spring here, I know many of you are seeing pear trees and tulips blossoming.  So today, let's celebrate with...   20 Spring Fresh Home … [Read more...]

How would you like to breathe new life into your home decor?  A quick and easy lampshade makeover can brighten your room, infuse it with color, or update your look.  Sometimes, it really is just that easy to freshen up a room.     Don't you love it when you come across a deal that's perfect for a project on your to-do list? One day I went to Lowe's on a mission. Of course, as long as I was there I just had to stroll down the lighting aisles. Even if I don't have a need, I just love to see, what's new in lighting.  That particular day, I noticed boxes of white lampshades in the aisle. … [Read more...]

Valentine's Day is just around the corner! The tree's been down and the house devoid of anything Christmas for about a month.  Though lovely with a bit of simple winter decor, with all the white and gray and brown outside, I'm hungry for color.  And since red is one of my favorite colors (I can't pick just one!!), and since I'm a wee bit of a romantic, I do have fun throwing some red around the house, with a few hearts, too. If you're feeling a little bit like me, you are ready for some no cost or low cost DIY Valentine's Day decorating ideas.  To make it easier for you, I've gone into the archives and … [Read more...]

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I confess... usually I have plenty of plans made by this time... but I don't necessarily do well in the execution department unless I get all the details prepared a week in advance.  Let's just say someone might have had a meltdown. One thing I like to do is have my table planned out and set ahead of time.  For me, that is an important detail that gives me a lot of peace and joy. This year I created an Oak Leaf  Thanksgiving Menu Frame for the buffet.     You can read all the details at Mod Podge Rocks.   And speaking of Thanksgiving … [Read more...]

Manger Scene Memories   I am happy to join Diane for Creating Christmas Memories with Vignettes. She asked if I would create a vignette and tell a story and the first thing that came to me was to share this manger scene.  This was the manger scene of my childhood.  I happened to inherit it last Christmas.     The thing I remember most about this was how crazy I was about Baby Jesus. I used to sit and look at this manger and stare and play with Baby Jesus; I was maybe four, it is one of my earliest memories.     I have always been enamored with babies.  I went … [Read more...]

Inspiring Christmas Vignettes Hello. I’m so happy to be here today on An Extraordinary Day. Diane is such a talented and wonderful blogger and I was thrilled she asked me to share some of my Christmas vignettes with you. As Diane mentioned to me, vignettes are little snapshots or memories and as I combed through my holiday projects to decide what I was going to share here, it was a wonderful trip down memory lane. I hope you enjoy my projects.  Creative Decor   Vintage Button Snowflake Ornament  |  Miniature Yule Log  |  Apple Advent Countdown  | Winter Centerpiece  |  Brown Paper Packages Advent  … [Read more...]

Raise your hand if you saw a beautiful photo on Pinterest and just had to make it? Keep your hand up if you actually went through with the project. Hold your hand high if that Pinteresting project was an epic craft fail!  You are in good company.   Heather Mann even wrote the book on it... CraftFail When Homemade Goes Horribly Wrong  It's a humorous compendium of real-life attempts to re-create the inspiring images seen on the internet or elsewhere.
