It’s kind of embarrassing to admit, but until just a few years ago, I didn’t have a very regular devotional life.
Sure I prayed every day. And some days a lot.
I would read my Bible sometimes… or even a devotional book.
But, when life got busy one of things that I would let go was my time of soul feeding.
Most of us eat three meals a day. When we’re busy we might skip one, or two, but we don’t go a whole day without eating unless we’re purposely fasting for medical or spiritual reasons. So why is it that we often soul fast for days on end? Or maybe I should say soul starve.
When I started this blog, one of things I felt led to do was to write an inspirational post each Sunday. Those Joy Day! posts were what some friends said they needed to start feeding their starving souls. Sometimes all we need is a little nudge.
Today I’m nudging you. If your soul needs feeding, scheduling time in your day with your Bible, a devotional, and in prayer is huge. Our souls are starved for nourishment.
Feeling stressed? [duh!] Just yesterday I read that 45 minutes of meditation a day is what the body requires to combat stress. You may or may not feel that you have a chunk of time that large. I get it.
A few years ago, I fasted from sleep for Lent. I got up early every morning during Lent, when it was still very dark, and nourished myself on God’s word and prayed. In the stillness of the day, I feasted. It was if I had the breakfast buffet every morning. I was fueled and energized for the day. Instead of wobbling through the day, I was standing strong fueled by God’s word.
I have no idea where you are in your faith journey. And believe me, I have no intention in heaping guilt on you. Far from it, actually. If you’ve felt a nudge as you’ve read this… it’s probably from the Holy Spirit. What I want to do is to encourage you to take steps toward feeding your soul.
Not all of us feel comfortable with just our Bibles. It’s a big book and I know it’s sometimes hard to know where to start when you pick it up to read. That’s where devotional books come into the picture. They are great tools, if we use them wisely.
When I read a devotional book, I usually read it with a pen or highlighter in hand. I don’t worry about “getting through” the chapter. I read for nuggets and I always look up the Bible verses that are listed in the text. Often times, when I start reading those verses, I don’t stop but keep reading more in the Bible around the suggested passage. It’s interesting how hungry we find ourselves for more of God and His Word.
Today, as an affiliate, I’m so excited to off you…
The Ultimate Christian Living Bundle!
It will be the best $35.95 you’ve spent in a long time!
And what a small price to feed your soul.
Each of these devotional books looks interesting to me. Today, I’m drawn to “Mornings with Tozier.” There’s something about the spiritual giants of the past that encourage me to pass up the milk and chew on the meat of the scriptures. Actually, every one of these books has something that draws me in.
What’s cool about that, is that the bundle includes 12 devotional ebooks. That’s one for every month!!
A close friend of mine just went through an agonizing divorce. Actually it was a 5 year process. At the same time, my husband and I lost our jobs. During this time I became acutely aware of how important it is that we feed and nourish our marriages. It’s really second in importance to feeding our souls.
I’m looking forward to reading “Team Us.” Tim and I fostered a high school student during his senior year. We even had to put him through a drug rehab program. We quickly learned that in order for us to survive the challenge, we needed to be a united front. That was the best discovery we could have made as a young couple. Today, as we struggle through this season of joblessness, I think that book has our name written all over it.
No matter your stage of life… there are ebooks here to nourish your marriage.
For nearly 12 years, I have served in children’s ministry in the church in a significant way. During this time, I discovered that most parents struggle with how to lead their children spiritually. Most adults struggle with feeding their own souls, let alone their children.
After Kristen Welch wrote “Rhinestone Jesus,” she wrote devotional ebook for the family to go along with the book. Kristen’s book includes 30 lessons for around the table, with some hands-on activities and conversation starters, plus fun printables. It’s real life, practical living, stuff for feeding our family’s souls.
I just know you’ll appreciate the tools these books offer in helping you develop your child’s appetite and grow them into hungry Christ followers.
This is just a small selection of what’s available in your Ultimate Christian Living eBook Bundle.
Books can be expensive. Sometimes we purchase a book with high hopes, but it doesn’t quite work for us. By getting a bundle of books, there’s no having to go back to the bookstore or Amazon, you’ll have another choice right at your finger tips. I like that.
Plus…I found out that you are allowed to gift the books you don’t plan to read! That’s crazy good!
You’ll be supporting An Extraordinary Day through your Ultimate Christian Living Bundle purchase.
But, even more, you’ll be putting the plates, bowls, forks, and spoons you need on your spiritual table so that you can feed your soul (and your family’s) and feast on the goodness of the Lord.
Hungry?

Your soul feeding sounds wonderful Marlene. I’m so glad you take care to nourish your soul.
Wishing you a joy-filled day!
Diane, I loved reading the short snippet about how you and your husband learned to be a team early in your marriage. I hope you enjoy “Team Us” and would love to hear your thoughts after you read it. In it, I share about a couple of seasons of joblessness we went through. So I hope those sections encourage you and your husband in your current season. Have a great evening!
Thanks for popping by Asleigh. 🙂 I look forward to the read and will be happy to share my thoughts.
Best wishes for an extraordinary day!
Wow….sounds like a pretty good deal and at a good time of the year.
My downfall is always summer. The weather gets warm and I’m living outdoors, nourishing my soul just watching the lightening bugs. And in some sense that’s true. But I tend to let go of my disciplines with reading and meditating. I dare say I don’t focus well in the great outdoors….too much stimulus. This is the time of year He has me as a captive audience.
Thanks for reminding me.
I hope folks take advantage of the offer. Being able to gift what doesn’t “fit” for them makes it a win/win deal.
We’re kindred spirits when it comes to nourishing our souls in God’s amazing creation, Mel. I feel like I am in God’s presence when I’m enjoying the intricate details of all HIS hand has made. But, as good as that is… it doesn’t feed all of me. Enjoy your time with him on these chilly days. And let’s pray for a relief from the cold and snow this year. 😉 Bless you my friend!

glenda
Glenda…did you get my email? I sent two…the second one contains all the facts and details for your next steps.
Regarding you email. Look in your ‘read or old’ email or even your ‘trash’ to see if the email is there. Also check your spam box. Usually when emails disappear they just end up in one of these places. Who knows what you might have accidentally done. It happens to everyone, sometime.
Again…check the two emails I sent to you. Let me know if the links there answer your questions.
