Fresh-Picked Pumpkins in our Home Decor

What did you do today?

Me?  I had one of those very fun girlfriend kind of days.

The kind where you both pick up pumpkins, go back to her house and create a magical moment with your stash?  Yes, one splendid day.

And what a nice afternoon it was.  The temperature was perfect.  To take advantage of the sunshine, we flew out to her patio and engaged in the grown-up version of playing Barbies.  Only we used fresh-picked pumpkins in our home decor.  Did I tell you we had fun?

We arranged a little sitting area and filled it in with all kinds of fall fabulousness.

I’m partial to pumpkins with crooked stems.  The curvier the better.  And if they have little tendrils as well….my happy meter soars.  I know it doesn’t take a lot to put a smile on this girl’s face.

My friend brought out these too cute corn candles.  I would never be able to light them.  Aren’t they just too fun?

I had brought a few things to play with from my home, too.  I forgot my little pumpkin pillow.  Phooey.  I thought that the little wrought iron settee needed a pillow.  Oh!  What about that fun table runner I brought with me?  Why yes.  Flipping that over the back added just the little fall touch that was needed.  Thank goodness the Nester wrote about “Lovely Limitations” last October.   Her 31day series helps me, even today, to step back and consider other options and possibilities.

So when was the last time that you were able to get together with a friend to play?  Seriously.  We adults take ourselves much too seriously.  We need more play time.  It’s good for friendship.  It’s good for creativity.  And it does one’s spirit good, too.

You think I’m kidding don’t you?  Well. Um.  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Maybe you should call up a friend and set a play date.  For you...not the kids.  Maybe a visit to the pumpkin patch would be just the thing.  And most of all…. Have fun!!!!

What’s your favorite way to spend time with a good friend?

I can’t wait to hear your ideas.  This could be like a virtual swap.  Leave an idea and pick up a new one.

How fun is that?!

Wishing you An Extraordinary Fall!

  12. Hi love your blog..I have been reading it faithfully now for a week or so…where did you get the pumpkin hanging for the patio? Did you make that? I am a pumpkin fanatic and would love to make that. Our weather here has gotten cold and rainy and can’t even think about going outside. Maybe we will get Indian summer.

    • Diane says

      Hi Cookie..my FB Longaberger friend!!
Thanks for joining in on the fun here! 😀
The pumpkin hanging is actually a table runner. I got it a few years back at an old cider mill. I couldn’t resist. If you need a better photo so that you can try your hand at making one…let me know and I’ll be happy to supply you with one.
We’e had a cold snap here with grays skies today, too. But, tomorrow the sun will be out!! And we should see temps in the mid to upper 50’s. Yay! I still have some gardening to do…so I hope it’s nice for a long stretch.
      Happy Fall!
