Happy Labor Day!
What does the holiday mean for you?
- An end of summer hurrah?
- One last day or two at the lake or beach?
- Maybe a gathering of friends with a fire or cookout?
- A chance to knuckle down and get a DIY project done?
- And maybe even for some, it’s no different than any other day.
There is a bit of history behind Labor Day and why we celebrate it which I won’t get into that here. Instead I am thinking, if we have work…be it for someone else or we’re our own task master…we are blessed.
Recently I heard that the “real” unemployment numbers are more like 15 %. That’s a lot of people who are certainly not making ends meet. So, on this Labor Day let’s celebrate work. Work which brings in dollars and cents to put food on the table, a roof over our heads, and clothes on our backs.
To have work is a blessing.
In the midst of gathering with friends and family, finishing projects, and getting ready for the new school year…
Let’s celebrate work!
The other day I captured this Carpenter Bee busily gathering pollen, almost frantic in his attempts as the sun was setting. And just maybe this bumbler gives us reason to evaluate our work, our attitude towards it, and our work ethic overall.
Who are we trying to please as we work? This verse from the Book of Colossians in the Bible helps us to recognize that we need to give our best all the time. Afterall we aren’t really working for mere man, but the King of the universe. Isn’t that a bit mind blowing?
Does Labor Day hold any special significance to you?
What are you doing this Labor Day?
Happy Labor Day!
Diane
