Pumpkin and fall floral bouquet - Inspiration for Living in JOY - AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Today we were walking through one of the big home improvement stores when we heard a nearby forklift call attention to its presence with a “beep beep.”  Something we never give another thought to hearing.  But, right in front of us, walking down the aisle, was a mom pushing a shopping cart with two small children.  A little girl seated in the front of the cart started calling out, “Beep Beep!”  “Beep Beep!” as her mom pushed her towards the checkouts.

My husband heard the little girl and brought her beep beeps to my attention.  He had the biggest grin on his face.

There’s something about joy that is contagious.

Immediately I was smiling too.

Life is filled with joyous moments if we have eyes and ears to see and hear them.

Maybe it’s something we’ve experienced that has brought us joy.

I love carefully choosing a bouquet of flowers at the farmers’ market.

The gal I often purchase from is always left with a smile, because out of my joy, I usually say something a little funny.

When I arrive home, there’s the fun of arranging my bouquet.

There’s the pleasure of my husband commenting on the new bouquet.

And finally, as I photograph the pretty flowers and share them here with you, my heart is again filled with joy.

Have you noticed joyous people in your life?

They splash joy on others wherever they go.

The owner of our building is an older gentleman.  Whenever I see him he has a smile on his face and a kind word to say. Everyone is his friend… young, old, rich, poor, happy, or grumpy.  He loves them all.  After each conversation with him, I notice my step is a little bit quicker and lighter.

I came to give life with joy and abundance - Bible verse - Fall floral vignette - AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Jesus said…

I came to give life with joy and abundance.  John 10:10b

He desires for us to live life fully.

Let’s not get focused on our troubles or so lost in our busyness that we miss the joy and abundance he has for us.

Let’s be mindful of his grace and goodness woven throughout our days and take joy in him.

And let’s be joy splashers.

There are so many little ways to bring Jesus’ joy to those around us.

Start by saying, “Yes!”

Look outward rather than inward.

Smile.  Smiles are contagious, you never know, you might start a chain reaction.

Love.

Care.

Help.

The list goes on…

What creative way can you bring joy to someone today?

It’s JoyDay!

And time to get our joy meters soaring!

Please join me in thinking back over the past week and counting seven things for which you are thankful.  This simple exercise of counting and giving thanks together in this space is something we do each week to reset our compasses and put our eyes back on the Lord.

I’ll start…

Thank you, God…

  1. that You are our source of joy.
  2. that praising you helps me through unexpected anxiety.
  3. for beautiful sunsets this week that I enjoyed with Tim.
  4. for our small group starting again.
  5. for a good night sleep.
  6. that YOU are trustworthy and faithful.
  7. for hope and filling our hearts with anticipation.

Now…it’s YOUR turn!

List your ‘seven’ in the ‘share your extraordinary thoughts’ section below.  You’ll be glad you did.

    Happy Joy Day!
Oh the beep beep of the home stores always scared my little ones, and so I always had to smile to myself as each one in turn while in high school would get a part time job at the same store.
Little bubbles of joy. Wonderful topic. Nothing so big that it actually changes our life overall but makes our day so much better. So today I’ll count just the little bubbles.
    Lord I thank you for,
    1. Watching the birds come to my yard for safety in my trees, a splashy bath and a full tummy.
    2. Spices. Yep…spices. Cinnamon in my oatmeal, basil in my tomato soup, pepper on my veggies.
    3. Daisies. They are my all time favorite flowers.
    4. The marvelous way line drying makes the laundry smell.
    5. Watching a toddler trying to do a somersault.
    6. The excitement of a garage sale or thrift store.
    7. The way a freshly mopped floor feels under bare feet. Having raised 4 kids I had to wait a while for this one.
Wishing you a beautiful week full of Joy
    Blessings to you!
    Minnie

    • I LOVE your little bubbles of JOY, Minnie! Watching the birds is so fun! We get such a kick out of the hummingbirds here. They are so territorial we put up two feeders and STILL some of them are so aggressive they won’t let another hummer at the other feeder. There’s quite a bit of dancing and posturing going on in the air and it is fun to watch… though I do get frustrated at how they don’t “share” very well. My friend has feeders full of hummers and I get them one at a time due to the aggression. Regardless, it sure is fun to watch them come in for a drink and fly up to the tree to rest and zoom back down.

      Thanks for sharing your “seven.” And may your week be filled with many big and little bubbles of JOY! {{big hugs}}
