Written in the 1700s by Charles Wesley, Christ the Lord is Risen Today is my absolute favorite Easter hymn. So much so that if the church I attend on Easter does not sing it, it doesn’t feel like Easter. Here are a few stanzas of my favorite Easter hymn.
Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!
Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting?
Alleluia! Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where’s thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!
Maybe it’s those memories of singing in the choir at the 7 am sunrise service as a tween and the aroma of the lilies filling the church. I’m not sure, but I absolutely love that song.
Even more…I am humbled that Jesus’ love is so great that he would lay down his life for you and me. It’s such an amazing thing to contemplate. It’s even more amazing to know that in doing so he overcame sin and death. And, through his resurrection power…He Lives!! Now and forever!
He is Risen!
He is Risen Indeed!
Do you have a favorite Easter hymn or song or chorus?
Today is Joy Day!
You have no idea how grateful I am to have you come here and join me in counting gifts/blessings/whatever you want to call them. There’s something wonderful about looking back over the past week and acknowledging the good things God has done and counting just ‘seven’ of them. We’re supposed to give thanks in/for all things. That includes things like my not-so-good week, too.
Will you join me in counting just ‘seven’ from the past week.
I’ll start…
Thank you, God for…
- a week filled with the evidence of your hope and love.
- a temporary job!
- friends who are praying hard with us for the just “applied for position.”
- taking us to the end of our rope and discovering that it’s not really the end.
- spring flowers blooming!
- your amazing sacrificial love.
- resurrection power…available to us in Christ Jesus.
Now it’s YOUR turn!!
Join me in counting ‘seven.’
Scroll down to the comment section…Share Your Extraordinary Thoughts….and list your ‘seven.’
I dare you!
Want even more joy? Take the Joy Dare here.
Thank you for stopping by today.
I appreciate you and your sweet comments make my day.
Happy Resurrection Sunday!

I woke humming that Easter hymn !
“O Love Divine, What Has Thou Done” is my favorite Lent/Easter hymn
That’s one of my faves, too! Today I am thankful for the last few weeks I got to spend with my brother. We both feel it will be the last time we see each other, but it was quality time that I thank the Lord for! Have a blessed Easter, Diane. Dona
This is my favorite Easter hymn as well….and I woke up with the song in my head! 🙂 This past week I’ve had the old song “The Holy City” in my head. Have a Blessed Easter as you remember the One who gave His life for you!!!
I woke with the hymn,Up from the grave He arose with a mighty triumph over His foe,He arose a Victor from the dark domain and He lives forever with His saints to rein,He arose, hallelujah Christ arose. It was like a radio in my head playing over and over.:)
How lovely–I’m hoping your Easter was a glorious one (and especially that this hymn was a part of the service!).
It’s been a powerful week. And I’m joyful in:
….the hands that continue to be extended to me ANY time I ask for help.
….getting to walk the mile plus without the cane–on uneven terrain no less! YEAH!!
….finding the concrete under the gross stuff I powerwashed off. LOL Power tools bring me such joy!
….the daffodils are in bloom! Finally!! Woohooo!
….the report I was made responsible for passed with flying colours. 🙂
….sunshine and 80 today—perfect for patio sitting and watching the birdies!
….getting to be of help to several folks who are struggling. Amazing how G-d puts me in their path.
….OH!!! AND I got a chocolate bunny……which no longer has ears…..LOLOL
Happy Easter to you and yours!!
I don’t think I’ve seen this hymn before, but ever so pretty!
Thank you God for..
1) my hubs who takes such good care of me while I was sick
2) for letting me spend time with me Grandkids today
3) for the food at our table today
4) for our beautiful new covered deck
5) for the gorgeous day it was today
6) for a clean house
7) for being able to work in my garden in over a year!
This last week has was Holy Week with many daily observances and reminders of Jesus’ many trials & sufferings on our behalf. It has been an awesome week and I have never been more acutely aware of Christ’s sacrifices as I was this week; everything just seemed to be clearer to me!!
So I am grateful for:
l. God’s awesome unconditional Love for us .
2. That he sent his Son to be sacrificed for us.
3. That Jesus so willingly suffered and died for us so that we might be saved and have everlasting life.
4. That through Jesus’ death he made it possible for us to have a personal relationship with God the Father…
5. That he left us with the indwelling Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us…
6. That my son and nephew and brother all know the Lord…
7. That I work in a Christian environment where we can practice our faith…
God Bless!
Thank you for sharing the verses to this wonderful hymn. We no longer use hymnals, and we miss out on so much! I am thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice, His resurrection, His gift of the Holy Spirit, His care for us daily, His communication with us daily (when we open ourselves to Him), and His direction and power in my life. He reigns Lord of all!
I pray you and Tim have a week that is packed full of God’s grace and love!
