Growing up, it wasn’t unusual for me to bring home an armload of books from the library on a weekly basis.

One of my favorite reads was the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maude Montgomery.

I loved Anne Shirley for her joy of life, not to mention the entertaining mishaps she got herself into by living life to the full.

There are a few stories that stand out in my mind.

How fitting that this quote is from one of those memorable chapters…

OCTOBER was a beautiful month at Green Gables, when the birches in the hollow turned as golden as sunshine and the maples behind the orchard were royal crimson and the wild cherry trees along the lane put on the loveliest shades of dark red and bronzy green, while the fields sunned themselves in aftermaths.

Anne reveled in the world of color about her.

“Oh, Marilla,” she exclaimed one Saturday morning, coming dancing in with her arms full of gorgeous boughs” ‘I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn’t it? Look at these maple branches. Don’t they give you a thrill–several thrills? I’m going to decorate my room with them.”    Anne of Green Gables, L. M. Montgomery  (click here to read the whole story)

Just like Anne, my heart skips a beat for October!

And yes, a few colorful maple branches in my home put a big smile on my face.

Below is a photo that never made it to the blog before.

Why?

Because it wasn’t perfect.  [groan]

I, like Anne, had the best fun picking wildflowers and branches and creating a wonderful bouquet of autumn’s goodness.

After I finished my arrangement and got my camera, I noticed that the yellow flowers had wilted.  Almost instantaneously.

My heart dropped.  I couldn’t share my joy with you because it was now ugly.   Or so I thought.

Maybe you’re like me and have difficulty getting past the wilted yellow flowers.

Or maybe, you’re like me and realize that our world is not perfect and we must do our best to enjoy the beauty with the imperfect.

I do hope you’ll enjoy nature’s beauty and bounty on top of my piano…

For the past two years I have embarked on a 31 day journey for the month of October.
31 Extraordinary Days  and 31 Days to Be…

This year I won’t be doing that.

However I am making a commitment to see you here….

with an inspiring post on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  Every Monday I’ll be co-hosting Project Inspire{d} our weekly link party, which I hope you’ll attend by linking up as a blogger, or visiting as a reader.  And every Saturday I will be sharing Great Idea features from that week’s link party.  I may or may not add in posts on Wednesdays (like today when there are two!) or Fridays.  However, you can count on the rest of the days to be as I mentioned.

Hopefully, you’ll also be seeing more sponsored posts.

I’ve been working at monetizing the blog out of necessity.  Be assured I will only be sharing products or services that I like or use, or are dear to my heart in some way.  Sharing those posts via Pinterest, Facebook and your other social media outlets will help me greatly. Always, your comments here on the blog, your shares, and your interaction on Facebook all mean a lot to me and help build this spot here.

I need your help to grow.

Essentially….we both benefit through the growth.  Yay!   Also, we all have choices as to where we shop.  When you shop through the affiliate links I have here in the content section of the blog or the sidebar, in a small way I benefit financially from your purchases.   Thank you!!!

As I mentioned, I’m not participating in the 31 Day series this year.

If the past 31 days series was helpful to you in any way…please let me know what you enjoyed most.  I am open to another series…just not for 31 days….and probably not in October.

I’d love to know what you most look forward to seeing…

when the blog hits your inbox (or whatever way you choose to follow along here).   What do you find helpful or enjoy the most?  Is it… Joy Day!, pretty photos and quotes, easy home decor crafts, seasonal decorating, home tours, painting or furniture makeovers, nature photos, tablescapes, recipes, etc., etc.?  Please let me know.    I want An Extraordinary Day to be your ‘go to’ spot for inspiration.

My crafting days seem to be over right now tho I like seeing crafty things. so keep on doing what you do and love. Thanks for sharing. October is good for us as our baby daughter will be 26 October 15 the day before her Daddy’s birthday–it was great bringing a newborn baby home on Daddy’s birthday and enjoying the traditional strawberry family birthday cake our older daughter had made for her Daddy. yes our kids are now almost 45, 39 and almost 26! Not looking forward to what follows beautiful fall as I hate Ohio winters!

Oh Cathy….I do suffer from perfectionism. But, it’s nothing like it was when I was young. I can’t believe all the slightly imperfect things I threw away or passed over in the past. Makes me shudder!! 😉
Thanks for your kind words, friend!
      [hugs]

Diane, I look forward to all of your posts but my favorites are your inspirational ones with the lovely pictures. Your evening post with the lovely bedrooms that come to me via FB are ones I cherish. Reading these beautiful verses have become a bedtime ritual for me! The best part of all of your posts is that they come directly from your heart. Thank you for all of the time you take to fill us with beauty and inspiration!

  6. Lucy Beliveau says

P.S. Guess what I am reading again?… Right! Anne of Green Gables!

    • Diane says

You know….I was thinking that I would benefit from reading those stories again. LMM is such a wonderful writer and wordsmith. She also has a series of three books…I think it might be called Emily…not sure though…I would recommend those too. I didn’t discover those until I was an adult….a lovely gift from a friend who was an Anne-lover…when my husband went to Russia for 5 weeks. The perfect gift.

  13. So my sentiment exactly. Actually, not just October, I love September also. Both months have delicious feelings of abundance, transitions and ‘going for it again’-energy. Did you see that ‘flower arrangement from fruit and veggies’ i put up yesterday? I mean the one in the window sill. That one epitomized it for me: seedpods of yesterday, abundance for today, and promise for tomorrow. Love, R
