Who flipped the switch? Every morning I'm up by 6 am... starting the day's race in the kitchen by making lunch and breakfast. It's early... but the only light I turn on is over the kitchen sink.  It's plenty of light. Or at least it WAS! What happened? Fall doesn't officially arrive until September 27th. Unofficially... Fall arrived... with her entourage of heavy gray clouds, cool temperatures, brisk wind, dark early mornings, and early sunsets. If you've been following me on Facebook you no doubt know my thoughts. Several gals overwhelmingly responded that … [Read more...]

This fall I gathered a plethora of acorns on my walks at the local park.  I've never seen such a variety of sizes and styles and browns in acorns.  Of course, I probably never took the time to look before.  This year in my quest to decorate on less than a dime, I turned to Mother Nature.  And oh my... did she provide an abundance. I wanted to create a centerpiece for my Thanksgiving table setting.  I had already made lovely oak leaf chargers, so I did what we all do when we want inspiration, I popped over to Pinterest.  While I was looking at pretty tablescapes, I saw an acorn basket … [Read more...]

Table art. If you're the creative sort, you not only enjoy setting an inviting table, you probably like creating something pretty for it, too.     We are each blessed with some sort of creativity.  I like creating with my hands and my camera lens. Sunday was one of those days when nature's bounty, creativity, a special gift, and beautiful weather all converged at the same moment.   It was an amazing few hours.     I had so much fun setting the table and photographing it.  My husband, who so graciously went with me to the park to lend a hand, kept hearing me talk … [Read more...]

This was what I saw when I looked out the window yesterday, before we got several more inches of white lake-effect fluff. I am so not ready for snow. Leaves are still coming down. What is Mother Nature thinking? Does she not know... Winter does not officially arrive for another 36 days!! On the other hand... it is beautiful. Regardless... I still have fall and Thanksgiving on the brain. If you do too, you'll want to check out my tutorial for making beautiful natural leaf chargers for your Thanksgiving table.  Be watching for my Thanksgiving tablescape on Tuesday, followed up by another fun tutorial for … [Read more...]

Do you remember those days as a child when you would collect fistfuls of autumn leaves? Maybe it was just last week that you found yourself picking up pretty leaves on your walk?   Please... "Pin" - "Tweet" - or "Share" this image!   I'm always on the look out for creating home decor with nature's bounty. It does seem that Mother Nature couldn't deliver any more leaves than she's been raining down on us the past few weeks. Actually, it's all been quite convenient for me. I have been planning an autumn tablescape but feeling like there was an important missing … [Read more...]

"Is anything too hard for the Lord? No!" Genesis 18:14   Can you imagine sitting on your porch, resting at the heat of the day, and having the God of the universe stepping towards you on your walkway with two men? Seriously, that is mind-blowing.  That was a day in the life of Abraham.  If that wasn't enough, God and his two companions sat down and ate a meal with him.  During their conversation, God remarked, that a year from then Abraham and his wife Sara would have a son.  Now Sara was way, way past child-bearing years, so when she heard this remark, she laughed.  Out loud.  Of course she … [Read more...]

Today we're making another stop at my friend's home to see her lovely living room dressed for fall. Earlier in the season I showed you her jewel-toned dining room, her stunning entryway, and I showed off my book page pumpkins on her screen porch.     This past weekend I was at her home and finally the sun came out so I could get some good shots of her living room.   In between a trip to the farmers' market and breezing out for a stop at the hob lob, I grabbed my camera and shot a few photos.  I didn't take a lot of photos... this is pretty much everything.  This was not a photo … [Read more...]

Please … “Pin-it” – Share it on Facebook – Stumble it! My friend mentioned to me that there just had to be something she could do with the garbage can filled with acorns she had just raked up from her yard...aside from starting an oak forest.   You too? Last year I went hunting for acorns.  I walked for what seemed like miles through the woods that rimmed the cornfield, eyes to the ground, carefully searching for those little nuts with cute hats.  After expending all that effort in the hunt, I walked home with a small handful.  That's all! This year I had success and found all the acorns I ever wanted!    Please … “Pin-it” – Share it on Facebook – Stumble it!   You know how you hear that there will be a bad winter when there are lots of acorns?   We talk about living with joy here at An Extraordinary Day.  All the time. But, it doesn't always happen, does it? What do you think is your number one joy stealer?     Fretting! Let's stop for a minute and think about this. If you find yourself stewing on something, fretting about it, trying to figure out how something will or won't happen, you are expending a lot of mental energy. Wasted energy. Fretting does not produce anything other than more worry. All the fretting in the world doesn't change the outcome of a problem.   Fretting is a real joy … [Read more...]

Welcome to Project Inspire{d}! I am so glad you're here! What is it about rainy Mondays?  Really, I cannot complain!  Despite two hard frosts on Friday and Saturday mornings, we had the most beautiful weekend and I had so much fun taking photos of the mist rising from the lake and the beautiful colored foliage.  Sunday afternoon we went for a long walk and stopped at the school playground to swing on the swings.   I even took a paddle boat ride and enjoyed the colors from the lake.  In October!!  And we haven't even had Indian Summer yet! I hope you had an extraordinary weekend too! Thank you so much … [Read more...]
