Have you given much thought to outdoor decorating for Christmas?

I’m sure you’ve seen the homes with all the colorful light displays and entryways beautifully festooned with greens and lights.

Today I’m sharing an idea for decorating those areas that are more personal.  The ones not seen from the street… such as the back porch.  The places where you’ll enjoy your favorite things with a holiday or wintry flair.

As I was going through some old photos, I discovered I took several pictures of an outdoor wintry garden vignette on my back porch.  This was several years ago, just after I’d moved into my old house.  It was the first time I ever had a covered back porch.

I had so much fun pulling in a vintage watering can and garden tool, vintage blue mason jars with some tea lights (which I forgot to light for the photo), bird houses and bird feeders, and boughs and Lunaria/honesty and Osage oranges I had gleaned from the fields.  Plus my very weathered garden rabbit.  It may seem like an odd mix… but to me it was just right for an outdoor wintry garden vignette.

A few rice lights were added for sparkle at night and voila! a little Christmas corner I could enjoy for several months.   You’ll notice I added miniature lights to the porch rail for additional glow.

Daytime or night-time, it was so fun to peek out the windows to see my pretty woodland table.  And when the snow came blowing in later, it was beautiful again in another glorious way.

Have you decorated a corner of your porch or yard for winter and Christmas?

If not, carve out an hour to “play” and enjoy creating some wintry beauty.

So cute. I’m going to do something like this tomorrow when I have time. I haven’t done my porch yet so you just gave me some great ideas!

  2. Diane says

Oh Carol Jane… I’m so glad you enjoyed the post and were inspired, too!
All the best for a creative day of decorating!!

Speak of outdoor insanity…I was out Sunday, moving stuff around, adding garland to my fence, dragging out lights and tying a few bows. I like my cozy little fence area, even if it means we shovel around it once the snow buries it!
Yours is too cute. I soooo miss having a porch.

    • Diane says

Oh Mel… I love that you have that fence area to decorate. I’m sure it’s sooo cute!
Porches… they are outdoor rooms and we all need them. Um… unless you’re not into the beauty out there like we are. 😉

all pretty but I hate winter and would not not go outside no matter how pretty. our outdoor Christmas decor is a wooden nativity we made years ago and colored lights across the front–plain and simple!
Merry Christ Centered Christmas to you and all who read this!

You put a smile on my face, Glenda!!
I’m not a fan of winter… but as long as I don’t have to drive in it or travel anywhere, I’m happy to put on my boots and bundle up.
I bet your nativity is amazing. Merry CHRISTmas to you, too! [hugs]

  5. Diane– What a nice, sweet vignette. And I totally love Amazon Prime! Been a Prime member for 3 yrs now!!

What a great idea! I’ve always had some sort of Christmas decoration going on outside, but not with a winter garden theme. Love it

    • Diane says

Oh Laurie… I hope you have fun creating one. It’s so easy to put together whatever you have and you’ll be amazed how it puts a smile on your face.
      Blessings!

  7. Your outdoor wintery garden is so cute. I wish I could do one out on our back porch, but it covered and hunkered down for winter!. I love the garden theme..you know how much I love to garden!

    • Diane says

Awww…thanks Cathy! I’m a little surprised you don’t have a little something going on out there. You are such a terrific decorator, indoors and out!

  8. So pretty Diane! Love this sweet vignette. I desperately need to decorate my back deck. I’d love a porch, but that is a maybe, someday dream. Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great week!

    Blessings,
    Deborah

    • Diane says

Thank you Deborah! A back deck is pretty special too! Hope you had a great sale last weekend and have a chance to have some decorating fun!

  9. Lucy Beliveau says

    Hi Diane!
In Texas we get to plant pansies and big decorator cabbages outside during the winter!!! I’ve got pansies all down my front garden and cabbages along the front! It’s beautiful!

    • Oh Lucy! I LOVE that look! And I am a teeny bit jealous! Because you know… everything is as much as dead here, now. 😉 And… pansies are one of my most favorite flowers!! Enjoy it all for me… okay?
