This week has been a week of quiet, solitude, and reflection.

Somewhere along the way, I lost my mojo.

It’s not that I hadn’t spent significant time with God. I had.

But, my soul was hungry for moments like this…

Joy Moments.

If you’ve been visiting with me over time, you know how much I enjoy my nature walks.

Those times make my heart sing.  And sing.

And yesterday, as I walked along a country road and came across the music of peepers… my heart sang with great joy.

Some time ago, our pastor shared how singing is God’s heart language.

If you’re a frog scientist you’ll probably tell me that the frogs are actually calling for mates… something like… “Hey cute stuff… won’t you come my way?”

That may be true.  But, their calls did not need to be musical, they could very well have flapped their little flippers instead.

The same with the cardinal who marks his territory, or any number of bird songs that come to mind.  They may or may not be mating calls this time of year.

It doesn’t matter.

Our God loves song… in all its forms.

He even sings over us. (Zephaniah 3:17)

My heart sings in joy moments - The Lord will rejoice over you with singing

So, as we came upon this choir of frog voices, my heart heard the song.

And my heart was restored, rejuvenated.

I communed with God in the song.

We stood for a long time and listened.  There are many voices coming from various types of frogs, together making beautiful music.  Music I am privileged to hear every spring no matter where I live as long as there are creeks and wetlands nearby.

The spring peepers’ song is an anthem to the Creator, to the newness of life, to the Giver of life, to the promise of good things to come.

As I stood along the wetland, at first I saw trees and brush that appeared gray and dead, juxtaposed to the bright blue sky reflected in the water.

Standing quietly and listening, my eyes were then drawn to the water.  There, I looked closely and noticed fresh duck weed already springing to life along the water’s edge.  And mingled with the beautiful chartreuse duck weed were bits of the red maple blossoms that had been swept into the water by the winds of the storm from the night before.  Together they mingled and the colors formed a painting.

Continuing to scan the details along the water’s edge, I spied some little frogs with their eyeballs protruding above the water’s surface.

Hearing frogs in the wetlands, my heart sings in joy.

Do you see the frog in the water?

Slowly, as we continued to walk along, seemingly from nowhere, tiny frogs would leap into the water with a splash.

Spring peepers in the swamp and my heart sings in joy

If you were a bird in the tree observing our behavior, you might have thought we were seven-year-olds in big bodies, filled with sheer delight.

When we started our walk, I felt sluggish.  Instead on our return trip, my pace was quicker, and I even stopped to pick pussy willows and wild daffodils I missed earlier.

My heart was lighter and the whole world looked brighter.

My joy cup was overflowing.

And my spirit communed with God’s spirit.

All creation was singing HIS praise.

My heart joined the swell.

I’d love to hear the time your heart sang in joy of the moment.

JoyDay!

It’s JoyDay!

The day we take time to look back over the past week and count ‘seven’… our joys and our sorrows… and give thanks.

There’s something wonderful that happens when we practice this counting.  We start to see things in our day differently, we live with more joy and expectation.

Please join me in counting ‘seven.’

  4. my wonderful friend and her unexpected blessing
  5. a smart phone and the fun of taking a video for the first time
  6. knowing you take joy in our joy

Today I’ve been so tired. And tears spill over from deep inside. It’s hard. To misinterpret the world and get hurt. To have handicap bumps which make every handicap person cringe as they are slippery and jar me and make my Walker not go. And things like public bathrooms with only blowers so how do I stand and blow my hands??
The friends long gone. Those that cannot help.
Yet those like my son in law. He’s one. For taking Curt for his surgical procedure. Which though he’s in great pain, no stroke.
Two. My daughter who cheerfully gave my husband they are close like father/daughter a ride to church and to get food items we needed
Three. I got to see my three year old grandson for a short while. We were in this secret garden area. We heard the wind in the trees and he was so surprised!! He made mud with his cup on a handle water from the pool and gravel from this one beach, and dirt, water, a digging tool and rocky pebbles? Happy boy!! All free!! Hhe did use his wooden tractors a bit too He dug holes out front to plant the last of pony packs but snails are out in full force!!!!
Four. I got lots of little and big projects done. Could be part of my fatigue? Brain tired
I’m tired. I’ll stop. Rough week for Curt. For me. But I will tell of His joy even in tears and even when feelings are numb. For JESUS loves me this ikonw. For the Bible tells me so. I am weak but He is strong

    • Diane says

Amen. “I am weak, but He is strong.” Amen.
Lifting you and Curt up in prayer right now, Gwen. And trusting with you for God work in your lives in just the very way you need. [[hugs]]

I love this post! God didn’t give us joy by accident. The word Joy, Joyful, Rejoice, etc. is in the bible over 300 times. There is no excuse for not being joyful if you love the Lord!

    • Diane says

Thank you Mary for your kind words! I was not aware the “joy” and its iterations were in the Bible more than 300 times. It’s not surprising… but sure is wonderful. And thank you for taking the time to stop by and share your insights. May your week overflow with HIS joy!

  4. Kim says

Diane, your post is beautiful, as always! Music speaks to my heart more deeply than anything else. God’s design for us, I’m convinced, is for music to prick our hearts open to allow His love inside our souls – His symphony of love, peace, balm. Your video is a wonderful way to start my day after time with the Lord this morning. Thank you, dear friend!
Thank you, Father, for allowing me to draw closer to You in my trial; for growing me through this time; for growing my husband through it, too; for giving us Your view of things; for allowing us to be a part of how You’ll reveal Your glory in the end; for revealing my weakest spot, allowing for growth where it was needed; for contending where I cannot against enemies I cannot begin to contend with; for showing me that my lack of trust in You is sin and then forgiving me for it and revealing how mighty and trustworthy You are!
Hugs and prayers for you, Diane! I pray you have a week filled with God’s blessings. Our Lord is our strength.

    • Diane says

I’m blessed that the post ministered to you and especially the songs of the spring peepers. Truly one of my most favorite sounds.
Thank you, Kim for taking time to share your words of gratitude. This growth we experience comes from the “Gardener” tending the grounds of our hearts. It’s wonderful, in spite of the tilling and weeding, to experience growth in a beautiful way. You my friend are truly growing to glorify the Lord more and more each day. May your week be filled with blessings and JOY!! [hugs]
