Last year I wrote and shared a tutorial for making Christmas stockings from a sweater.

I’m not sure that it caught the attention of very many people….on December 19th.

Don’t you think most everyone probably already had their stockings ready for Santa?

It seems to me that it would be a lot more helpful to be inspired to try your hand at creating a sweater stocking for Christmas on November 19.

Or even the November 16. So…that’s what I am doing here…

Make a #SweaterStocking for #Christmas  #Recycle :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

This was a super easy project.  Just what I like.

The most difficult part of the project was drawing out the shape of the stocking.  I wanted mine to have the toe pointing down a bit.  I just like that look rather than a square boxy look.

I could go on and pretty much tell you right now how to create your own sweater stocking for Christmas, it’s really that easy.  But, instead, how about you click on over to see the detailed tutorial:

From Sweater to Christmas Stocking in 12 Easy Steps

After you make your stocking…’cause I know you want one too…please be sure to share a photo of yours at AED on Facebook.

this week at An Extraordinary Day:

The Week at a Glance #Extraordinary :: Make a Sweater Socking for Christmas :: AnExtraordinaryDay.n

It was an Extraordinary week here on the blog.

Here’s a rundown of  this week’s posts…

  1. Fall Nesting ~ The Process ::  The Week at a Glance 11/02 This was a throw-back post from last fall when I had fun fluffing my “new” sideboard….over and over and over again.
  2. How to Get Wisdom and Joy :: Joy Day! We’re talking about ‘fearing’ God and what that means.  You’ll have to stop by to see where ‘joy’ fits in the picture…it does.
  3. It’s Time to Plant and Grow Paperwhites This was another post that I originally posted in late December.  Since Paperwhites are such favorites of mine for decorating, I wanted to give you the chance to pick up some and do some super easy indoor gardening, NOW.
  4. Mixing Gold and Silver for Thanksgiving :: Tablescape Last year I put together a gorgeous table for New Years.  It occurred to me that that very same tablescaping would perfect for a dressy Thanksgiving dinner, sans the numbers 2013 on the table
  5. Thankful Thursday :: Thankful Heart Quote and Printable This quote was truly amazing.  I created a Free printable of it using a photo I took of some fall Anemones. (Love them!)

Humbled and blessed.

What a lovely blessing to have been featured here:

Sew Mama Sew has a series this month called Handmade Holidays. I just know you’ll want to check out all the links to fabulous handmade goodness all over the web. And ya’ll (I know…I’m from Michigan.) my Paperback Book Christmas Trees Tutorial was included in today’s line-up.

Beckie from Infarrantly Creative took a photo of a kitchen and then linked up various sources to make up that look.  And..ahem…my Paperwhite’s tutorial was included.

As you know I enjoy doing a little partying at other blogs…a few of my posts were included in the features from the weekly link-ups here:

Blissfully Ever After    ~    504 Main    ~    Mother’s Niche

And then…
Stacey of Poofing the Pillows celebrated World Kindness Day on her blog with some wonderfully kind words about An Extraordinary Day!  Truly an sweet act of kindness that made my day.

 And finally…

I guest hosted “Busy Monday” for Charlene at A Pinch of Joy so she could go on a well-deserved vacation.  It was fun visiting all the link-ups and choosing the features for the week.
Please be sure to pop over to these extraordinary spots!!

On a Personal Note

This has been an amazing week on the blog.   I have absolutely no idea why….but the number of views on the blog has shot right up.  A couple of days were close to the most views ever and then we zoomed right past that number.  If you’ve been sharing posts, pinning, and sharing on social media, or praying….Thank you!!   I’m certain that you play a key role in the growth here at An Extraordinary Day.   Whatever good things you’ve done.  Keep it up! 🙂   My heart is filled with gratitude to God.

So tell me…what good things have made your week?

Wishing you an Extraordinary weekend!

Diane

  1. Regan says

Thanks for the great tutorial! I can’t wait to start one! I have several old sweaters that would be perfect for this! :o)

    • Diane says

That is awesome Regan!! I know you’ll have fun with the project. 🙂 I’m thinking about making more…just for the fun of it!
      Wishing you An Extraordinary Weekend!!
p.s. be sure to post your finished project on my FB page so I can share it!

  2. Wonderful to have a supportive friend to bolster you up just when needed… the stocking project looks easy and pretty!

    • Diane says

Oh Madge…it was like the biggest hug of encouragement. A true gift from God.
      Blessings….

  3. Mel says

What good things have made my week?
Coming here to read about how you’ve been well taken care of. I love it!!
Finding a pair of shoes I can wear….a small, but oh so wonderful victory!
Being able to say YES. I love that I can say yes to some things today.

I adore the sock and might have to make some wee ones for a tree.

    • Diane says

Awwww…you are so sweet. 😉 [hugs] Thanks for rejoicing with me.
Finding shoes for me, anytime, is huge sweet victory. My foot print is the perfect hang-ten. Cute in the sand…but that means I have a regular instep and short toes and thus most toe boxes are too deep and thus squish my piggies. Arrgh! I LOVE shoes…but getting them to fit takes every ounce of patience I have. If I find something…I get a couple in dif colors. But…Borns have been good…they just aren’t very dressy.
You might make little stockings?!! I love it. I never even thought to do that. I have some sweater still left from my pumpkins and vase sleeves. Hmmmmmmmm….

  4. Gwen says

I too do not recall this post. I have a silver sweater I hang on to just in case. But I’d really like the offwhite cable knit!!! I like the sleeve making visual interest.
I’m sooo jazzed you will be here to encourage us along our paths. Blessings.
And I pray for a permanent house for you too.
    Blessings
    Gwen
I don’t even set out stockings anymore!!!!
    But they are cute!!!

    • Diane says

You just put a big smile on my face Gwen!! Thanks for rejoining with me in God’s goodness.
      Thanks for your prayers.
I had a hunch that not many would recall the post, so I thought I needed to bring it up again. Seriously…who remembers things on December 19? Most are up to their eyeballs in holiday preparations and festivities.
There may not be a “need” for Christmas stockings…but it sure is fun to put some Christmas greens in the top and hang it from a knob somewhere.
      Blessings!!

  5. Tammy says

I have knit a couple of Christmas Stockings, but yours look just as nice and so much easier! Love the idea.

    • Diane says

Thank you Tammy! They are really pretty easy. It’s a fun project, hope you get a chance to try your hand at it.
However…..I bow to you. You knit your stockings!!!!! Wow!!

  6. Judy says

      Blessings!

  8. I just picked up a white sweater from my closet the other day and set it aside to get rid of. There are some spots on it that won’t come out. Now I know what I can do with it. This is so pretty! Thanks for reposting it.

I’m so happy for you that you’ve been blessed with so many visitors and for your friend who is allowing you to continue to blog! Blogland would have a huge void without you! I pray God fills your cup to overflowing and makes up for all the months (years?) the locust have eaten.

    God bless you Diane
    Deborah

    • Diane says

I’ve had so much fun crafting with thrifted sweaters Deborah. I hope you get a chance to whip up a stocking from your sweater. I can only imagine how darling it will be with your sweet touches.
