“I just want my child to be happy.”

Have you said that?

I think it might be the number one wish for many parents.

We’re all looking for happiness.

Looking for happiness - the answering in a C.S. Lewis Quote

We’ll feel better or be happier…

  • if we drop a few pounds.
  • if I could get more traffic to the blog.
  • if we would get the yard re-seeded this spring.
  • if my kids would do better in _______.
  • if I could get that merit raise.
  • if my spouse would ________.

These are some of the kinds of things that we think we need or at least want.  Surely they will bring us happiness.

I see you rolling your eyes.

Seriously, those things won’t bring happiness.  You know that… I know that.

It’s just that we don’t live like that.  Do we?

It kinda stings doesn’t it?

Maybe that’s why this morning’s reading from C.S. Lewis hit me.

Or maybe because I posted this on Instagram yesterday.

It was a graphic I liked from an old blog post that got a few likes on Instagram and more on my personal Facebook page.

The funny thing… when I put it up, I put it up because the image had a happy feel.

But, really, happiness isn’t found behind doors, is it?

Looking for happiness? The answer is in this Printable Quote by C.S. Lewis God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself.

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself,
because it is not there. There is no such thing.
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

This quote gave me pause.  You too?

I can be guilty of thinking that, “when ____,” I’ll be happy.

It’s not that I go around with doleful expressions and mope around.  Actually, quite the opposite.

What I am guilty of is not looking first to God for my peace and happiness.

I’m pretty certain that when I constantly find all my satisfaction in HIM, I won’t think about happiness, or peace.  It won’t be necessary.  I’ll already have happiness or peace.

If you’d like a reminder of this quote.

I created it as an 8×10 printable for your personal use.  Feel free to download it here and print it out to frame, stick on the fridge, or pin in your cubbie at work.

Are you loving these photos of pansies?

It’s been pretty cold around here, I don’t know if pansies are even out in the garden centers, yet.  So, in the meantime, I hope you’ll join me in enjoying these colorful glimpses of spring.

What signs of spring do you have around your house?  What’s blooming?

As always… thanks for dropping by.  It’s so good to have you here.

Wishing you... An Extraordinary Day!
