Snowball Viburnum in Blue Ball Jars :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

It’s been really windy around here lately.

I even have to wear a cute ball cap so that I don’t end up eating my hair while I take my daily constitutional.

Doesn’t that sound so important….daily constitutional?

The wind was so strong that it kept blowing my cap off my head.  My ponytail fed through the expansion hole in the back didn’t even help to keep it on.

My dad used to say, “The wind doesn’t blow for nothing.”

It’s a funny remark.  But…whenever the wind kicks up, I’m reminded of his phrase.

Snowball Viburnum as a cut flower :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

The wind didn’t cease through the night.

The next morning I woke up to see a branch from our so very skinny Snowball Viburnum bush leaned so far over it almost touched the ground.

I asked my husband to lop it off for me and bring it inside.

Centerpiece :: Blue Ball Jars - Snowball Bush :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

I love the color of the blossoms when they are still green.

White is nice.

But green, is, well, more dramatic.

Simple & Easy Table Decor :: Vintage Blue Ball Jars & Viburnum :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

In the end we can say extraordinary things come from the wind.

Like this super simple centerpiece for my table.

A fun table runner made of book pages.

Vintage blue Ball jars.

A few stems from that skinny Snowball Viburnum bush.

How much easier does it get?

I know you might want to know more about the book page table runner making appearances lately, or the pleated collar around the Ball jars.   But, you’ll just have to wait.  I know…I’m a tease.

Oh…and if you don’t have your own vintage Ball jars, you can buy new look-a-like blue Ball Jars, by the case.  Just think of all the fun you can have.  (And yes, this is a shameless plug.  If you purchase the jars I just mentioned or anything else via this link on Amazon, I will get a tiny commission. [wink] It helps pay for my internet connection….thanks!!!)

Hope this put a smile on your face and inspired you to something extraordinary at your house too!

Diane

  1. I would love a slip of this..I don’t have a snowball bush…beautiful

    • Diane says

Right now is a great time to pick up these bushes at the garden center. They usually aren’t expensive.
Thanks Cookie!! Hope your day has been extraordinary! 🙂

  2. Pinky says

I love snowball viburnums too! The green color is BEAUTIFUL! It is VERY windy here too! What’s up with that??? XO, Pinky

    • Diane says

I’m sure there is a good reason for all the wind….but it sure has been a lot! HaHa!!
      Thanks for stopping by Pinky!!
      Blessings sent your way!

  3. Beautiful snowballs. I love the green when they are first blooming. In fact I love them all through the growing process and when they a dried on the branches.

    • Diane says

Thanks Pat! 🙂 Last year I didn’t have any snowballs…my first year in this house….because of a hard freeze we got. I’m thrilled to even have them!

  4. Hi, Diane. Beautiful blooms! I have a Chinese Snowball bush that has never bloomed, and I’ve had it for 3 years. I know they’re different than the viburnums, but I’m not sure how different. Do you know anything about the Chinese snowball and possibly why it hasn’t bloomed? Thanks!
    Kim

    • Diane says

      Awww…thanks Kim!!
You know, I don’t know, but give me time, I’ll try to find out for you. 🙂

  5. Jenna says

Now, that is totally stunning! Love it!

  6. Glenda Kremer says

BEAUTIFUL again! you are amazing! I have old blue jars–sorry!
    hugs!
    Glenda

    • Diane says

      Thanks Glenda!!
Old jars are BEST!!!!! You are very fortunate. Mine were gifted to me a long time ago….I love them!
      [hugs]

  7. What a fun thing to find after a storm!!! You really showed them off beautifully!

    • Diane says

Thank you Yvonne! It means a lot to me coming from you. I so admire your touch with displays. 🙂

  8. Mel says

Ah…..look what the wind blew in! I see it found you, too! OH my gosh…. I tried to remind myself that it would dry off the soaked fields–but geeze….blew everything to kingdom come, including ME. LOL Oh, but–How adorable in the blue Mason jars. I love those jars–they hold buttons and doo-dads and STUFF around this house–various treasures. I might haffta dump the treasures out and put one on the table….or three. LOL And then I’ll have a pile of STUFF on the coffee table to play with, too! 😉

Yup–DEFINITELY like the book page runner in the middle of the table. THAT…was a brilliant idea. As was snagging the bent bough. We don’t have snowballs around me, but they’re in the city gardens and I love ’em in the fall. Now I’m lovin’ ’em in the spring. What a gorgeous shade of green.
And if I could FIND your email, I’d send on ‘details’. LOL Where DO you hide that thing! 😉

    • Diane says

You are so right about the wind. It was a bit much!!!!! Talk about an understatement! 😉 Haha!
You could do like me…throw it all in a basket….and leave it there…and then when you move….your wonder…what IS all this stuff?!!! And throw it in a bag and then a box and move it in tact to open a box and say….arrrgh!!!…and close it up and say…Later!! 😀
Thanks for the kind words 🙂 And sorry about the e-mail…I did send one to your e-mail that comes up on my side of the comments…I must have entered it incorrectly. Mine is located in the little series of buttons on the top right…with the Facebook icon, etc. It’s the one with the envelope. But…we’ll make it easier…basketladydi (at) aol (dot) com. 🙂 So Sorry!!!

  9. How beautiful and simple! I love the soft green of the snowball blooms along with the aqua canning jars. The book page runner is a fun idea too. I’m visiting from HOME at Rose Chintz Cottage. Blessings, Pamela

We have wind most of the time here where I live and very seldom something that beautiful blows in. Your blooms are gorgeous. Green or white, I love Snowballs. Dried, they’re beautiful too. Thanks for sharing with us at my HOME and enjoy your day.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

    • Diane says

Awwww…thanks!! You know I would never have picked a flower like that green….but I sure will now! 🙂

  15. Diane says

So simply and unbelievably lovely! We have had some windy days lately, which is fine with me. I adore the wind!!
    Thanks for sharing your table!

    • Diane says

I vote for breezy! Windy….at this rate I’ll need a stocking cap…just to keep something on my head and my hair not flying everywhere. Haha!!!
      Thanks, Diane! Blessings!

  16. Great idea with the book pages – I’ve not seen that before. Thanks for sharing that!

  17. Lanita says

    • Diane says

Thank you Anne!!! It surely was a delightful blessing! 🙂

  19. It puts a smile on my face! My hubby cut roses from our bush for a sweet little bouquet today! Also a reason to smile!

    • Diane says

Roses!!! It will be a while before I see those. 🙂
How sweet of your dear husband to bless you that way!

  20. Athena at Minerva's Garden says

This is so pretty–I love the book pages tied to the top of the glass jar!

    • Diane says

Oh Athena, I’m so pleased you like them. I was a bit shy in sharing them as I thought some might find them…um. goofy? I love it too! Thanks!!

  21. These are so pretty! I love that shade of green! What a cute embellishment with the book page and the book page runner! Diann and I think you for joining TTF this week!

    Linda

  22. Felicia says

I planted my first snowball Bush last year in memory of my precious grandmother. She had one that was huge and we would beg for a blossom. She was so stingy with that Bush and would only let us girls have one blossom each. I never understood why until mine bloomed for the first time this year. It is so beautiful and I just can’t bear to take a blossom off. Somehow, I think she must be smiling down at me.

    • Diane says

Thank you for sharing your dear story Felicia. What a precious memory. Snowball bushes just make me smile.
Wishing you an Extraordinary weekend. 😉

  23. So beautiful! Way to make the most of that storm. 🙂

    • Diane says

      Thank you Erica!!
Wishing you an Extraordinary weekend! 🙂

  24. Oh, I used to have a Viburnum bush but we had to remove it when we had some plumbing line work done out in the yard. I really miss it! Those pleated book page collars are adorable!

    • Diane says

I bet you do miss your Viburnum, Jennifer. 🙂 Hopefully you can plant another one.
I’m blessed to know you like the little collars I made for my jars. It’s funny, but I was afraid people would think they were silly.
      Hope your weekend is extraordinary!

  25. Ruth says

Love the book page runner, and the blue mason jars, love the flowers, too. It all looks perfect. Things are just starting to bloom here and get pretty.
    Ruth

    • Diane says

Spring has been long in coming this year. And then we got a frost…hard enough to make the leaves on our neighbor’s Tulip tree turn brown…flowering bushes and more, too. 🙁
Thank you for stopping by Ruth, and for leaving your encouraging thoughts.
      Hope your weekend is Extraordinary!

  26. Love your father’s quote. It’s wonderful. Out here in West Texas, the wind does blow for a reason.. to bring in dust, to keep us cool, and keep the flies and mosquitoes away. I love your blue jars and the snowball stems. The pretty collar on the jar is probably my favorite touch! xo marlis

    • Diane says

Oh Marlis…I love all the reasons the wind blows in Texas except for the dust. Yikes! I hear that’s a housekeeper’s nightmare.
Thanks for popping by with your sweet words.
      Hope your weekend is Extraordinary!

  27. These are really sweet! I love the book pages and the colors jars. Perfect!

    • Diane says

And Meredith…thank YOU for popping by and encouraging me with your sweet words.
      Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

  29. Love the Snowball Vibernum. The ones in the South peaked about a month ago. This is one on my very favorites as it was my Mother’s. I did a post on it as well. Love you artful arrangement!

    • Diane says

Ours are just peaking now, Mary Lise. I do with they would last longer…but the rains will come and they will fade. Last year we didn’t get much because of an unexpected hard freeze. Somehow they survived this year’s freeze.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind words.
      Blessings!

  30. Diane, I love the little blue jars, the gorgeous flowers, and the book page runner! Thank you so much for sharing. The color of those jars makes me want to go out and find some ball jars in that luscious shade. A friend just bought some and loves them.
