Other than going away to college or getting married, have you ever packed up your home, said good-bye to friends and neighbors, and moved far away?

Our first big move was away from our sweet saltbox which we had built and thought would be our forever on earth home.  Nine months ago we made our fifth move.  This time, leaving behind friends we had made over twelve years.

This week a man who greeted us and helped unload our moving trucks at our last house came with his wife to visit us in our “new” home.   They were en route to see a U.S. Open Tennis Tournament and decided to take a day, go out of their way, and stop and stay a night.

Just the day before another couple was traveling home from Maryland and drove 2 hours out of their way to meet us for lunch at a wonderful restaurant just off the interstate.

My heart was bursting with JOY!  Words do not express how wonderful it is to have friends willing to go out of their way to say “Hi!” and give a hug.  Yes, we chat on Facebook, e-mail back and forth, and maybe even text.  But there is something wonderful about seeing a good friend, up close, and personal.  Sharing a meal together…doing life.  Loving one another.

I’m reminded of this verse from the Bible when Jesus says… “I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you.  All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.” John 13:34-35 NCV

Joy Day!

A day when we celebrate the goodness of God.

Today I celebrate God’s goodness expressed through the love of friends.

Have you ever gone out of your way to visit friends who live out-of-town, or state?

Do you have friends who have blessed you by going out of their way to visit you?

When we give up our time to express our love,

we love like Jesus loved us.

What Joy!!!

Joy Day!  The day we celebrate blessings from the past week together.

I’ll start with just seven of the many:

  1. Wonderful lunch and conversation with dear friends
  2. A lovely ‘new to me’ rug in the perfect colors.
  3. A walk about town with good friends
  4. Laughing with friends.
  5. A friend’s stamp of approval.
  6. Enjoying deelish grilled pizza with new friends.
  7. Sizzlin’ Saturday at church with friends.

Will you join me in counting blessings, too?

Please share just ONE in the comment section below from your week….Seven if you can.

Joyfully!

Diane

  1. I have moved many times in my life. Most of those moves were when I was a child and it was awful to leave my friends knowing I might never see them again. In most cases that was true. As an adult, since we’ve been married, we’ve only moved three times. The last time we moved was from California to Arizona. Two couples, dear friends from California, left their families and came to Arizona to be with us the first Thanksgiving we were here. It meant so much to us that they would do that for us. This post reminded me of this. Thank you for bringing back the sweet memories.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

      Hi Charlotte!
Those are good memories. We too were blessed with a family coming to spend Thanksgiving weekend with us last year. Truly a blessing.
Hope your week is truly Extraordinary!

I have lived in the same area my entire life so I simply cannot imagine moving far away from friends and family. My college roommate moved very far away and I’ve been able to visit her in her home one time since her move. We did recently get to have a lovely phone call and catch up with each other.

Having dear friends move away is difficult too! Glad the two of you had an opportunity to reconnect again. We so need to keep our friendships blooming.
      Extraordinary blessings sent your way.
