Twenty-three days ago I read the quote below and tapped out the following thoughts.  I’m not sure why I forgot to publish the post. But, I wanted you to know that little detail so the time reference makes sense.  [sigh]  We’re hurdling towards the deadline all too quickly…

Hang on to the rope :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

“You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you. It is easy to say you believe a rope to be strong and sound as long as you are merely using it to cord a box. But suppose you had to hang by that rope over a precipice. Wouldn’t you then first discover how much you really trusted it?”

― C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

This quote walked across my screen this past week.  I read it and re-read it.

Isn’t this what faith is all about?

It’s easy to have faith or say we believe something when we really have no need to exercise it.

But, when the bottom of the life box drops out….what is it that we are really hanging on to?

Faith test :: Hang on to the rope :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Between today and the 31st of August we’re going to be testing our faith in God.

Yes, I wrote that correctly.

We are going to discover how hard we really can lean on God.

We’re going to discover how much we lean on ourselves.

And we’re going to see God at work.

But, only to the extent that we allow him.

The big question.  How much are we going to allow God to be God?

You see, I believe that our rope is strong and secure.  I not quite as confident in my own abilities to hang on to the rope.

The one thing I know for sure…

If I can trust the rope, then I should be able to trust God to give me all the strength that is required to hang on to the rope he has provided.

Is God our rope :: Hang on to Him tightly. :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

I may have diverged a bit from the direction of the quote.

You see, I’ve discovered over the past seven months that I am certain of the rope.

It’s me that I don’t trust.

How about you?  How’s your rope?

May your day be Extraordinary!

Been thinking about you and sending prayers for you all as well. It is in seasons of life that we question ourselves. God is always faithfully good (A Voscamp)

    Dear Diane,
I have every confidence that you are not going to let go of the rope. You are all about claiming God’s promises for you & your husband. Your faith comes shining through all over every post & photo shoot. You. will. make. it.

Know that many of us are praying for you & your husband. God’s plan is working itself out. It’s coming; right on schedule. Wait for it. Hold on! Be encouraged.

Like Peter, we say, “Lord, to whom would we go?” What are our options? We can only choose to hold on to the precious promises that have never failed us in the past.

Our son & his family are raising funds to sustain them on the mission field. There are deadlines. Some have already been adjusted. Time seems to be running out. But wait! “Our times are in His Hand”. We return to His Word & pull up faith.

    Praying & Anticipating with You!

Carolyn….I’m believing it and waiting expectantly. 🙂 I know it’s not faith if we can see it. God has been so good to us. I can’t tell you how blessed I am…even in the midst of boxes everywhere.
You have encouraged my heart, today. As I pack, I’ll be praying for your son and his family.

I truly love what you wrote and I can relate to it alot. I have been speaking out lately thanking God for things and situations ect. that though I don’t see it in the natural I am believing in the Spiritual. As God’s word says in Hebrews: Faith is “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 . Eventhough, things don’t seem to change at all in the natural, God is moving in the Supernatural. I pray that you will continue in your Faith and know that God is truly the Provider and Supplier of all our needs, and He can do more than we can ever hope or imagine. Many blessings to you. God bless you. Hugs and Prayers. 🙂

Oh Babette…thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate your thoughts on the subject…sooo well said. 🙂 Today I was thinking about that verse in Hebrews, too. One thing we can be sure of is our loving heavenly Father. 🙂 You are so right….we have no idea what is going on in the “heavenlies.”
Blessings to you my sweet friend!!

This post and these comments made me think of an old chorus we used to sing in church……”He may not come when we want Him, but He’ll be there right on time. He’s an on-time God, yes He is!”. We just run on different clocks than He does! I’m praying for you, girl. Dona

    • Diane says

Oh doesn’t HE run on different time! 🙂
Thanks Donna for your prayers and encouragement!!
      Hope your day is extraordinary!

Good thoughts, Diane. And the response from Carolyn really touched my heart. Blessings to you, friend.

Thanks Judy. 🙂 Oh yes, her words were perfect. What a blessing. And you are too my friend.
