I give thanks to my God upon every remembrance of you. Mother's Day :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Whether your relationship with your mom was good or not-so-good…

on Mother’s Day or any day, giving thanks for mom is the best way to honor her.

I give thanks to my God upon every remembrance of you.
Philippians 1:3

Happy Mother’s Day!

Having said that, I know too well that Mother’s Day is NOT a joyful day of celebration for a lot of people.  Some of us were not blessed with knowing our mother, or having a good relationship with her.   Some have miscarried or had children die prematurely.  And some of us did not have children for a host of reasons.  Any of these and other reasons may make a Mother’s Day celebration painful.   So, if your heart hurts today for this loss of motherhood….know you are not alone….and you are being lifted up to the Father in prayer.  I wish I could give you the biggest hug to let you know I understand, and I care.

Crossing my fingers, so to speak, re your #3

    • Diane says

Thanks Gail! I’m believing and trusting God, big time for that!! 🙂

  2. Tonya G says

Happy mothers day. Personally I hate mothers day. I try to forget it. I usually spend it crying. My parents divorced when I was 6. My mom is an alcoholic. I have no relationship with her. When I was 12 I begged her to get help. Pick the liquor or me. She picked the liquor. I am now 38. Ive only met her 5 times. She to this day refuses to get help andhave a relationship. She only called if she needed money for alcohol. Because of my childhood I will never have children. My blessings to all the mothers who took the time to be a mom. Mine never did 🙁

  3. Diane says

Tonya…my heart breaks for you and the relationship you missed having with your mom. I pray that with time you will be able to forgive her and that the pain will lessen. It’s something we cannot do in our our strength….but we are able to do through prayer and leaning hard on God. This is not a one-time or overnight thing…it’s tiny little steps in that direction until one day you realize that the knowledge is very real, but the pain is so much less. We can heal and I so want that for you. {{Big hugs, Tonya.}} The reality is that your mom may never change (don’t give up praying for her), but God can work in our lives if we allow him to change us so that we can become whole in spite of our loss.

  4. Mel says

I thank Tonya fot sharing so honestly. It’s good for me to remember why working to stay clean and sober is important. There, but for the grace of G-d, go I.
And growing up without a mom, being a Nana and getting to be present for the Girl and the Bug…priceless.

    And counting out joys:
    * I worked all day in the yard! I felt almost “normal”.
    * Being gifted yet another rainbow….always my reminder that “G-d keeps His promises”.
    * Fresh asparagus gifted to me by one of the “old farts” I sit by in meetings. He likes me!!
    * The patch of wild violets in my back yard…I know people think they oughta not be there but!!! 🙂
    * The amazing mixed media canvas the sister sent me…perfect!!
    * The Bug going jumping up and down happy cuz she gets to go to California to see my sister.
    * Your hubby making the short list. Awesome! Thank you G-d!! 🙂

    • Diane says

I join with you in appreciating Tonya’s honesty….and I appreciate your’s too, Mel. I rejoice with you in the rewards of your persistence….what a blessing “that sweet bug” is to you, too.

  7. Kim says

Hi, Diane. Here I am a day late again this week…Sundays are filled with so many other things! Good things, though. 🙂 Yesterday was very hard. I think my tears during worship embarrassed my family a little. Why is it so hard to cry discretely?!?!?! Glad it’s over, and here are the 7 things that make me thankful.
1 – My loving son who took extra-special care of me yesterday – his hanky, his hand, his strength, his love, his note with the flowers he brought me.
2 – My husband who is by my side each morning, noon, and night.
3 – My Lord, who is daily teaching me. (Reverse the order of these first three, please.) 🙂
4 – Scriptures that are balm to my heart and soul.
5 – Flowers to plant and enjoy for many days ahead.
6 – Sweet caring, loving friends.
7 – Hope in good news for special ones on my prayer list. (D & T)
I’m so happy, hopeful, and prayerful as early June arrives. God is big and has big blessings! I pray you have a blessed week, Diane! 🙂

    • Diane says

Kim…my heart knew it would be a hard day. I almost think that church is the worst place to be on a day that is so special to many. Can you even believe I said that? Sometimes it’s hard to get to the place mentally/emotionally in a service where we can worship. To let go of ourselves and our hurt. When we are able…the worship rights our worlds to some degree and soothes our hearts. I’m so glad that your son and husband have been so loving to you. You are blessed.

Thanks for rejoicing with me. We are believing and trusting with all we have. Praying for good news for you too. [hugs]

May your week be filled with joy-filled God moments!
