I know…I’ve been an awful tease.

First I gathered some pine cones, made them pop! and told you they were for a wreath.

Then, I decorated the mantel with a sweater vase filled with pampas grass and peacock feathers and mentioned the wreath.

And if you saw some of my posts on Facebook, you probably feel doubly teased.

Maybe you were beginning to wonder if you would ever see this wreath.

Today is the day for unveiling my Pampas Grass Wreath embellished with pine cones and peacock feathers.

So without further ado….drum roll please…

I love that nature provided everything except the frame to create this wreath.

The pine cones were cut to look like flowers.

They look really glossy, but I did not spritz them with poly.  It seems the baking causes their resins to shine.

A few larger pine cones were cut to add a little relief of “flowers.”

It looks like the feathers are growing right from the flower swoop.

For added textural interest on the mantle, I created a twig vase and filled it with more peacock feathers.

The pampas grass wreath gives a hint of a sunflower.  I wonder how it would look in August when the fields are full of sunflowers.  I hope it lasts long enough to find out.

Do you have pampas grass growing in your yard? Have you wanted to do something special with it for your home decor? Put your DIY hat on and make your own Pampas Grass Wreath embellished with a Pine Cone center. Without the peacock feathers, it almost looks like a huge sunflower. This wreath will make a stunning statement for your fall home decor.

So there you have it….finally!

Please let me know what you think of this unusual wreath.

And because I know you’ll want to know how all of these things are made…a tutorial is coming next.

Remember, if you don’t have any decorating money….just look out your door.  You might be surprised at what you will find.

    • Diane says

Awww…thanks Lorraine. I know it’s very different. 😉 It as a fun challenge to figure out how to make a wreath with the pampas grass.
      Wishing you an extraordinary weekend!

  2. Mel says

Wow…..now THAT had to be a whole lotta work. Looks like it anyway.
It’s impressive on the wall with the mantle following the look all the way to the floor. (Oh the cats are gonna love that grass! LOL) Seriously…..very cool. Very posh, actually. I think maybe that’s the peacock feathers?

You just keep creating and teasing us. LOL It’s worth the wait. 😉

    • Diane says

It was a fair amount of work…but as usual it was the figuring it out that took most of the time. 😉 And it was plan B when my roll of burlap disappeared. That’s what brought the pine cone portion into being. Oh the cats…they wish. 😉 Thanks for the kind words, Mel. I know this style isn’t for everyone.

  3. It is impressive looking Diane! I wish I had pampas and a kid and cat free home because they both would have a good time playing with it…(maybe not the kid) but the kitties will be in wreath heaven! It looks very elegant yet it is very warm and inviting since you are using all natural materials. Thank you so much for sharing.
    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Lizy

    • Diane says

Thanks Lizy! It hangs on the wall so really no one even notices it. The grass in the vase…yeah…that would need to get moved around or up. 😉
Thanks for your kind words. Hope your weekend is Extraordinary!!

  4. I am shocked when I see this grass wreath and thinking how difficult it can to make. It is the beautiful and unique style wreath I have seen first in my life. Seriously, I have never seen such creativity before. You did a brilliant job. You have inspired me and I am glad to come across to your post. If you don’t mind could you please tell me the tips to make this wreath?

    • Diane says

      Hi Evelyn!
You are too kind. Thank you for your encouraging words. 🙂 Truly!
I am actually planning to post a tutorial in the next few days. Be watching for that. 🙂
      Hope your weekend is extraordinary!

p.s. Your Google Plus URL sent you to my spam box.
And when I clicked on it, a Self-Storage in the UK comes up. Is that correct?
      Just an FYI.

  5. Wow, Diane, what an elaborate wreath! I can only imagine the amount of work that went into creating it…the grass looks very delicate. I love the fact that it was made with natural elements. You are right, nature provides in many ways! 🙂

    • Diane says

Awww…thanks Kim! It really isn’t as delicate as it looks. And yes, it did take more time than most of my projects. But, it really wasn’t too bad. The time consuming part was figuring out what I was doing as I went. I’m sure you know that drill, too. 😉
Hope your weekend is Extraordinary! 🙂

  6. love it so unique, unusual and creative!!

    • Diane says

Kristina & Millie…you just put a big smile on my face. Thank you!! [hugs]

  7. Gwen says

A bit slow in commenting. Oh my this is gorgeous!!! I took pampas grass for granted growing up. In the country it grew huge along dirt canals and was considered a nuisance. My husband said they are like palm trees and in a ball so easy to take out but they grow so very quickly and so huge!!!
And what do you do?? You add pinecones for a center for no one else is doing that and a few peacock feathers for interest!! I’m saving this wreath!! Even if I don’t ever get to replicate it inspires me to be bold and use what I have around me!!!

    • Diane says

Oh Gwen, I have never found Pampas Grass easy to take out. I bet you have something else that looks very similar. Just like most grass I know in the midwest it’s a fibrous mass. As it grows older the center dies out and it’s helpful to dig out and replant for the best look….though most don’t do this. 🙂
Thanks for your kind words about the wreath. It was fun to do something “out-of-the-box.”
Hope your day is joyful and blessed. [hugs]

  8. Exquisite!

Best wishes to you and yours and a full and speedy recovery for your sweet grandbaby. [hugs]

  14. Sue N says

this is so lovely! how is it holding up? i used pampas grass stalks in the house last winter and it shed everywhere! did you do anything to preserve it from flying about like dandelion poofs? spray poly? just wondering how to get more life out of this.. gorgeous!

    • Diane says

Thanks Sue! Well…I haven’t had it together more than a month and because it’s on the wall it’s perfectly fine. But…spraying it with hairspray like the old-fashioned “Nylon Net” is a good way to keep the poofs from phoofing.
      Happy Thanksgiving!

  15. Whoa Diane! That is the most unsual and beautiful wreath I have seen ever. The center pinecone flowers are just stunning! I would never in a million years have thought of that. The peacock feathers add just the perfect touch of color. Thank you for sharing it at What We Accomplished Wednesdays.

    • Diane says

      Haha!….it is pretty unusual. 😉 It isn’t for everyone…that’s for sure. 🙂
I guess it’s an example of how a challenge is good for us.
Thanks for your wonderful words of affirmation. 🙂

  16. OK this is really pretty! And pretty darn creative if I may say. I have a thing for peacock feathers! I’m pinning this to our talent board! Thanks for sharing on DIY Sunday Showcase! Hope ya come back again this week!
