Copy Cat Challenge ~ with a twist!
When DebbieDoos announced the challenge and added…”With a Twist”…she had me!!!!
Generally I’m not one who gets into copying something or someone. I like to take the essence and do my own thing. When I read the challenge, I immediately had something in mind.
Back in May, Kristi of Addicted 2 Decorating did a series of posts about transforming her community patio into a restful and colorful place to relax. She did a great job. One of the things she did was to create her own Outdoor Rug with Painted Stripes. I’d been thinking that my porch needed a facelift. Actually it needs more than that, but I am choosing to make the very best of some shades of gray outdoor carpeting which blankets both my front and back porches.
Several years ago I had been smitten with the idea of making a floor cloth. Armed with the inspiration from Kristi’s colorful outdoor rug, I decided to create my own, complete with Adirondack chairs. I already had the chairs, but they were a light yellow that really didn’t look right at our ‘new to us’ house. So, they were repainted this dark campy green. Shortly after, I rescued a then white end table from a pile of goodness left at the street by a neighbor who was moving, and repainted it to match the ADK chairs. Having ‘pinned’ Kristi’s rug, I knew that in some way, shape, or form, I wanted to create a rug for my porch. I had already started on that project when DebbieDoos’ Copy Cat Challenge (with a Twist) hit my inbox.
Without further ado…here’s my take on the challenge.
Kristi’s inspiring patio & stripped rug….
Here’s my twist….
No our rugs are not the same in any way, except they are both stripes.
Mine was created using a canvas painter’s drop cloth and some miscelaneious paint.
I’m pleased with the final result. Despite my failure to remember to paint some of the stripes in the same campy green as the chairs. Why did I forget? Probably because I did not keep that paint in the same place with all the other leftover paints. Ahem. Sounds like a good excuse? Yes? Regardless I am pleased. I will probably move it around to the back porch where I have some lighter chairs and really need the punch that these bright colors will provide. Hmmm…I think another post is coming.
Doesn’t it feel inviting?
I’d love for you to come by and sip some lemonade and chat a bit.
Thanks Debbie of Debbiedoos

Thanks so much for the shout out, Diane! And your rug looks AMAZING!! I love how colorful it is. And I think it’s perfectly fine that you didn’t include the green on the chairs. It’s not matchy-matchy, but it all blends beautifully. Heck, I like yours better than mine. 🙂 Yours looks so bright and cheerful. Mine looks dingy in comparison. I’m thinking I need to go purchase a drop cloth! 🙂
I’m blushing now. Thanks for your affirmation, too.
I’m always so inspired by your creativity, Kristi!!!
Hope your weekend is Extraordinary!!!
I just love the bright and happy colors in your rug! It makes for a very comfy and inviting spot. I’d love a little lemonade!
Thanks Sharon!
Wouldn’t it be fun if we were all able to actually visit in person?
Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!
Diane! The porch looks beautiful. So cozy, colorful and inviting! I need you to come visit my house and give me some tips. Enjoying your creativity. Thanks for sharing it with us.
You are so sweet Cindy!
Thanks for reading and for your encouraging words.
May your day be Extraordinarily blessed!
Great copy cat! I like the rug WITH the lighter green stripe instead of one that would match the chairs!
Thanks Tammy! I had intended to include small dark green stripes….but it is brighter this way! My husband thinks it was a good mistake, too!
Wishing you a wonderfully Extraordinary Day!
Diane, you done fine work here my friend. LOVE the colors, and I love the concept. I forgot Kristi had done this. I really need to copy both of you now:) Thanks so much for joining in on the fun!
Thanks Debbie! And thanks for allowing me to join in the fun!
Hope your weekend is Extraordinary!
Great copy cat you did. I love the stripes and the green in the rug looks like a lighter version of the green on the chairs so it all works. Do you think it will withstand the weather?
Thanks Grace! For the sake of time, I photographed it before it was completely finished. I’m intending coat it with polyurethane on both sides. I understand that will help it not take in moisture and will make it easier to keep clean. Now for the temps to come down just a bit so I can do that outside where it can then bake in the sun.
Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!
Amazing! I love it, you did a great job. Isn’t it great to be crafty?
Thanks for your kind words, Nikki, and thanks too for stopping by! After being in a creative funk…it felt REALLY good to get my craft on! 😀
Hope your weekend has been Extraordinary!
That is so pretty!! What a difference a rug makes to an outdoor space. Thank you for the inspiration… might have to try this one! So happy you joined us ‘in the studio’ this week. Hope to see you again, Diane!
Thanks Jennifer! Seriously I was really surprised that it made such a dramatic difference. There just might be more floor cloth/rugs in my future 😀
Wishing you An Extraordinary Week!
Hey there, thanks for stopping by my blog! I love my tuna can holders, I’ve made a few for friends too. To answer your question the cans don’t show through at all, the clothes pins are bulky enough to hide them.
Wonderful! 😀
It looks great! Love it, you are a great copy catter:)
Thanks Debbie!
Hope your week is Extraordinary!
What a fun project! I have a floor cloth I need to paint and I’ve been putting it off…. Thank you for inspiring me to pull it out and get painting!!
Now that you are gearing up….I hope you find time for your floor cloth project. It was really rewarding.
