I can't really say for sure... but as I was dreaming about my Easter table... and yes I DO do that... I just KNEW that … [Read more...]

I'm not much for pink.  Are you?  Except for pink tulips... oh. my. goodness! They totally make me weak in the knees. Today I want to show you how to Turn a Plain Pot of Tulips into a Beautiful Easter Basket Garden.     I LOVE pink tulips and my favorites are the May blooming pink Lily Flowering Tulips. I had huge swaths of them planted at my first home only to have them bloom and die in a day because of an unexpected 80-degree day in early May. Disappointing for sure, but it didn't stop my love affair with them. Pink Lily Flowering Tulips are not found in the stores, ever. … [Read more...]

Officially for me... it's NOW spring and Eastertime. Why do I say that? As I was looking out my treetop window on this cold misty gray morning a robin descended onto a branch and proceeded to begin the preening process.  It was such an ordinary spring sight... except that it's now past the middle of March and this is my FIRST robin sighting this year.  As the sun sinks into the horizon tonight, I'm going to listen for the robin's evensong. I cannot wait!  Truly it will be music to my ears.  There's something about hearing those evening trills.  Even for a few moments... peace descends upon my … [Read more...]

Something happened on Good Friday. I was preparing my Facebook posts for the An Extraordinary Day page... it wasn't something I wanted to do... I was just going through the motions... and then I found myself going from being detached... to totally desiring to speak and share Truth.  God's Truth.  Jesus' sacrifice. Something happened to my heart in the midst of writing and preparing those posts. Our church had a Good Friday service which we attended.  For several weeks I had struggled to join in the corporate singing.  But that night, I easily sang those songs.  I sang Truth.  And worshiped.  Really … [Read more...]

Recently I  did a little thrift and antique store hopping with my good friend.  We had so much fun. One thing Rochelle collects is vintage aluminum trays.  They're inexpensive, they don't take a lot of storage space, and they can be used for all sorts of things. Serving beverages? Grab a tray.  Serving appetizers? Use a tray.  Serving several kinds of ice cream for a sundae bar? A tray makes a great slop-proof surface. And then my favorite... using a tray to frame a moment (vignette).     After shopping with my friend, we went to her house and played.  Do you do that too?  She … [Read more...]

I have a confession. I love Easter eggs. Or maybe it's just eggs. I have eggs for breakfast almost every morning.  Do you realize that eggs are like the perfect food? And so yummy too. I could really get off on a tangent here with my love of eating eggs. However, today we're talking about Easter eggs!  I have all kinds, but my favorites are the ones that nature colors. It's so fun to get eggs straight from the farm in all shades of blues, greens, and tans. So much so... that a few years ago I used those natural colors to create a theme for my spring and Easter "mantel" decor.   Since … [Read more...]

Written in the 1700s by Charles Wesley, Christ the Lord is Risen Today is my absolute favorite Easter hymn. So much so that if the church I attend on Easter does not sing it, it doesn't feel like Easter.   Here are a few stanzas of my favorite Easter hymn. Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia! Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia! Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia! Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia! Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia! Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia! Christ has opened … [Read more...]

Raise your hand if you're just now getting started on figuring out your Easter table and menu. It's okay.   Today I have a few last minute ideas for your Easter table.     Generally in the blogging world these things are done in advance simply because we need time to process and post our projects.  This week I've been helping my friend put together a lovely Easter table.  We finished it on Friday.  Because my friend will be working over Easter weekend, it needed to be done ahead.  And it worked out great for me, because that meant I was able to do a photo shoot yesterday.  But, it also means … [Read more...]
