{Day 26}

Have you ever seen an eagle in the wild?

I’ve been to several wildlife sanctuaries and have seen birds of prey in huge cages.  Those birds were tethered or caged because they had been rescued and were not ready to return to the wild.  It’s amazing to see such incredible birds up close.  And yet, it’s equally difficult to see them without the freedom to soar.

Today as we were driving along the gorge I spied a magnificent bald eagle.  He was sitting on a branch no more than 30 feet from the road.  Often I have spotted hawks, falcons even, but never an eagle.  My heart pounded.  This enormous bird was stunningly beautiful.  But, at 50 miles an hour I didn’t get a chance to really see him.  So, we decided to drive up to the next bridge and circle back around in hopes that he might still be perched there.  And he was.  We pulled off to the side of the road.  I so wanted to get a picture of him.  But, I had ignored the nudge earlier, when leaving to run a few errands, to go back in the house and get my camera.  Fortunately my husband had his iPhone and got out of the car to get a picture.  At that point several cars drove past and the eagle majestically lifted his wings and effortlessly flew to another spot down the creek, and out of sight.  Again, we drove over the bridge in hopes of seeing the eagle on the other side of the gorge.  We were unable to find access to the gorge without walking through people’s yards.  Disappointed?  Yes.  But, we had seen an eagle!  And that my friend, makes for An Extraordinary Day!!

Are you familiar with this scripture from the Bible?

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Watching that eagle lift his wings and immediately soar made these verse from the Book of Isaiah come to life for me.  Truly the power of that lift of feathers seemed effortless.   Is that what is available to us when we place our hope in the Lord and not our vain attempts?   Effortless soaring in Him?

As we seek to live more fully….let’s remember that it’s not our hurry scurry striving to fix everything and right our world that bring us peace, and hope.  Instead, we need to put our hope in the Lord and allow him to strengthen and sustain us, empower us and provide every. single thing. we need.

Those who hope in the Lord live extraordinary lives.

  Why be ordinary when You can be Extraordinary.

I hope you are able to see the eagle in the photos and get a glimpse of our amazing experience.

Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

    Winter’s a tough season in the midwest, but these fella’s make my heart sing in the coldest and grayest of days. I’ve been graced to watch the population in this area soar in numbers in the past ten years.
    There’s something about the presence of their magnificence that puts me in awe and leaves me humbled.

    It’s a spiritual experience for me, every time.
    I eagerly await their return.

    Thank you for letting me read here. It’s done my heart good!
