3 Ways to Overcome Overwhelm

It’s a brand-new squeaky-clean week.  Are you excited for what lies ahead?

Sometimes we cannot wait to greet the first day of the week!  We’re full of joy, ready to zoom off at full speed.

Other times, we feel used up and worn out and it’s just Sunday.  We look ahead and sigh, already worn down with not-so-positive anticipation.

Where are you as we begin a new week?

Not long ago I came across this verse….

O Lord, you are my God!
I will exalt you in praise, I will extol your fame.
For you have done extraordinary things,
and executed plans made long ago exactly as you decreed.
Isaiah 25:1 NET

and had a big realization…

The best way to deal with big time stress… those overwhelming feelings and dread for what lies ahead… is to

  • Acknowledge God and His Lordship in our lives.
  • Give Him praise and glory for how He has faithfully done many wonderful things in our lives.
  • And praise Him for the many things He has planned for us that will take place in His time.

3 Ways to Overcome Overwhelm - Pretty blue and white flowers

The beauty of it is that when I acknowledge God as my Lord… I quit being the center of my universe.  He takes center stage.  That alone can right a world that seems to be toppling.

Look back over your day or week.  How have you seen God’s care played out?

Did He keep you safe while driving?
Did He give you wisdom for a difficult situation?
Did He make your one dollar stretch to become four dollars?

What is it you are facing that seems too large, too impossible?

God has already been at work on your behalf.

He is always with you.  He promises to never leave or forsake you.  And in spite of how things appear, God knew all these things would take place and He is working things out for you.  In fact, way before you got blindsided or stomach punched, He knew it would happen and He started preparing a way for you.

When you have one of those really overwhelming weeks ahead….how are you going to handle it?

Use these 3 tips to Overcome your Overwhelm
  1. Start with acknowledging God as the Lord and leader of your life.
  2. Thank Him for the extraordinary things He has already done.
  3. Praise Him for what He has planned for you.

To do this… could be life changing.

    Thank you God for:
    1. I also experienced several unexpected kindnesses!
    2. for the help of a neighbor with my car…
    3. for a little unexpected financial gift from the heart from a Dear Friend…
    4. for many answered prayers from our Daily Prayer Warrior Chain!
    5. For the glorious weather of the last 3 or 4 days!
    6. for your provision…
    7. For a wonderful Saturday, spent in a Charming little old Florida town at their annual Spring Fling Flower festival, it was gorgeous weather and all the Beautiful flowers/plants….

    • I love how God continually shows you how He’s loving and caring for you. Yes… I wish neither of us had to go through all these challenges… BUT… God… He holds us and loves us through it all.
Thanks for sharing your joys, Debbi. Praying your week is filled with countless God moments. [hugs]

  2. Gwen says

    Joy Day!
I truly believe this is wonderful Scripture based and wonderful guidelines for feeling overwhelmed.
    1. God just as a shepherd leads the sheep You my Savior will lead me. Thank you for that promise from your Word
    2. Thank you Lord that Curt could drive to work Friday plus to church! And we went on a two hour outing and saw someone we’ve been in prayer over him and his family. Then we ran into someone who had been a close friend for 17 years but dropped out of my life suddenly and abruptly. And it was a treasure to see her today. I know God let me see her for my heart had been sad often. She had not accepted Christ and I shared lots but God knew we had a close friendship. One of my life’s closest. And so I thank God for getting to see her in person and she rejoiced over Curt driving too!!!

    3. I grew tired but sang in a chair as Curt checked out. I praised You Lord. For what You will do. And for being my Lord and Savior. I had been near collapsing as I grabbed for a chair and a lady helped get it. I closed my eyes and sang. And quietly the people grew, loud talking grew more soft. A did not sing and thank my Lord in voice that screamed His name. He strengthened me. I took a sip of my water that I held. I thanked the lady who had helped with the chair and the other table said,” you have to keep going. You cannot give up. You’re a child of the King. As I shared how unusual to know that HIS joy gives me strength not His might , they agreed and praised God and Jesus with me. And then Curt was there and it was time to go home.
I’m stopping at three for I’m so very weary and tired of late. But no cancer has Curt. His internal bleeding has stopped but he’s healing from that for awhile. He’s in a treatment to see if a tumor marker can be lowered so each week he goes in now after a painful shot. His fatigue is so great and his body is in pain but God allowed him to be trained how to use his brain to teach himself to scan and this makes up for his vision loss. What a joy for him now. Drive by day only but we are glad. It’s a gift!!!!! Oh praise God.

    • My sweet friend, I rejoice with you that Curt was able to drive! That is such a huge answer to prayer. God is so good. I love how He also reconnected you with a friend, had the help of strangers, and a word of encouragement from others. Gwen, those three were so amazing, my heart is singing with yours. Trusting with you for God’s healing to be completed in Curt.
Thanks for stopping by… you always bless me with how you find joy in life despite your situation. [[hugs]]

  3. Debbie says

    I’m thankful for:
A week filled with more happiness than anxiety
That I’m learning more of the word of God each day
    Jesus loves me!
Learning I am still able to serve God even with my disabilities
That after church shopping, I think I’ve finally found a church to call home!
That God gave me the strength to get through a few things this week I was afraid to do.
For the love of my son who helps me in so many ways.
Diane…I’m thankful you weren’t in an almost accident and that you have a safe and glorious week! God bless you!
