Grapevine wreaths can be so very easy to decorate with for most holidays.

You might remember my Easter Egg Wreath or my Natural Fall Wreath.  Both were quick and simple to make.

This Grapevine and Winterberry Noel Wreath was also easy to put together.

Early this fall I created a few grapevine wreaths from those growing up in the trees nearby.   They’re easy to make and they’re free.  Yay!

I’ve been having lots of fun decorating with Winterberry or Michigan Holly which grows in wetlands.  I love their vivid red color.  They really add a colorful pop to all the greenery and pine cones in a woodland decor.  If you don’t have access to Winterberry, beautiful faux berry stems can be found at craft stores and Christmas shops.

Here’s how I created the Noel Burlap Banner.

  • Using a burlap ribbon, I picked up this one with a coupon at Michael’s some time ago, I cut it to length and trimmed the ends with a V snip.
  • Next I took some jute and tied each end of the banner.  I left long tails on the jute to tie it to the wreath when it was finished.
  • Then I made a template, free-handing my lettering, with a bright colored Sharpie marker.
  • Laying the burlap ribbon over the template, I taped it to the template so it would be secure.
  • Using a black Sharpie marker, I traced over the bright letters which I could see through the mesh of the burlap ribbon.
  • I was a little anxious that this would work, but if you draw slowly, it comes out beautifully.

Bunches of Winterberry were tied up and attached to the grapevine wreath.

The banner was then tied on to the wreath over some of the Winterberry stems.

And that’s it!

A simple woodland grapevine and winterberry Noel wreath to place where you wish.

The First Noel is one of my favorite Christmas songs…

The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepards in fields as they lay:
In fields where they lay a keeping their sheep
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Noel Noel Noel Noel
Born is the King of Israel.

Noel is a French word originating from Latin meaning birthday.  So when you see the word Noel…think…Happy Birthday Jesus!

Celebrate Noel!

Diane

p.s. I’m thinking of changing the banner out for January.  Any ideas (word) for a winter theme?

  1. VERY pretty! Love it on the bench and love the lantern too. Merry Christmas!

    • Diane says

Pinky, you are sooo sweet!! Thank you so much!!
May you and yours have a joyous Christmas!

  2. Annie says

Gorgeous! What font did you use for NOEL?

    • Diane says

      Hi Annie!
      Thanks so much!!
I just free-handed the lettering. I’m sorry…that probably wasn’t very helpful was it?

  3. Gwen says

It looks so pretty especially on this bench of snow!!!

    • Diane says

Thanks Gwen! We actually have about 8 inches or so of snow. Isn’t it interesting how the bench has so little? It made it nice for displaying the wreath. Which might go there in the end. 😉

  4. Very cute. I love this little wreath.

  5. Very pretty!!

  6. Traci says

I love the simplicity of your beautiful wreath. We don’t have Winterberry here in California but I do have some artificial stems that look just like it hopefully I will have some time to make one up for myself. Thank you so much for sharing this idea.
    Traci

    • Diane says

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, Traci! How fun that you’ll get a chance to make up your own wreath, too!! Let me know if you share it on your blog.

      Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

  7. Mel says

Okay…….wayyyyy cute!! Lemme assure you–my ‘free hand’ wouldn’t turn out so lovely. I REALLY need to go back to do some hand written letters….I’m losing my penmanship abilities. LOL
Am I the only one amazed at the fact that you made the grapevine wreaths to begin with? You snuck that one in! LOL Needless to say–wonderfully done…..wreath and decorations alike.

We have “Noel” several places in the house–and it gets me to humming every time I see one.

    • Diane says

Oh Mel…I hear you about penmanship. Mine totally stinks. But, somehow I managed this. [wink]
I actually handwrite a journal daily. Unfortunately it looks like scribble because I can’t write fast enough. 😉

Haha! It’s easy to make the wreath…wrestling with the grapevines…pulling them down from the trees and stripping them of leaves and other stuff is what takes the time. But…it’s so worth it ’cause they’re free!

Thanks for your kind words. Always…you make me smile.:D
Wishing you An Extraordinary Day! 🙂

Thanks Marty!! I’m discovering that I’m enjoying “simple” these days. Sometimes less IS more. 😉
      Blessings!

  9. I love the rustic look of this wreath! I see me copying this in the near future. 😉 Thanks for sharing & it looks amazing on your snow covered bench!

    • Diane says

Oh Beth….I do hope you have fun creating your own version. I love simple and easy and this one fills the bill.
Thanks for stopping by and for leaving your sweet words.

Wishing you and yours JOY this Christmas!

  10. This is beautiful! We’d love it if you came and linked up at Do Tell Tuesday–it’s live now! I’d love to make one of these and possibly feature it next week!

Gotta say…this is one wonderful idea. Think I might try it for a Winter wreath. Merry Christmas!!

    Blessings,
    Linda

    • Diane says

Awwww….thanks so much Linda. I do think it’s perfect for winter. Except that I don’t have much burlap ribbon left, I thought about changing it up after Christmas. I look forward to seeing your spin on it. 😉

Wishing you a most blessed and joyous Christmas!
