This week I think I discovered the secret to rest.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.

Psalm 91:1-2 (NLT)

What kind of week have you had?

Do you find yourself working hard…at work…at relationships…homekeeping…etc.?

Do you feel pressured?  Burdened?  Fill in the ______?

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest…

I admit it….

It is way too easy to take back what God asks me to entrust Him with and attempt to work it out on my own.

It’s even harder when there is $2.38 in the check book and I have no idea where we are going to get $99.03 for the automatic withdrawal. I was certain I knew God’s plan.  And then we were down to the wire.   Okay God…did I miss something here?

Do you ever want to ask God just one thing?

If I could ask God something, I would want Him to explain His timing and why it is that His timing and mine just don’t line up.  Why is He so last minute?  Do you wonder that too?

While I’m trying to work something out, God whispers to someone that they need to send us a check.  It arrives, just in time and disaster is averted.  I sigh a big sigh of relief.  And humbly whisper words from a very grateful heart.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest…

Rest.  Doesn’t that word evoke good feelings?

We are such people of doing.  It never stops.  If we’re not the energizer bunny in physical action….then our minds are crazy busy.

Physically we are weary.  Mentally we are weary.

We seem to need to make things happen.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest…

After the check arrived, two significant things took place.

One, God made an amazing provision.

Two, He showed me that all of this does not depend on what I do or Tim does.  All our try hard is not the answer.

God showed us that what He wants from us is trust.

Not just saying we trust.

He wants us to live trust.  Exhale trust.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest…

When our whole trust is in Him….we breathe in rest.

We exhale…rest.

Rest :: JoyDay! :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Will you join me in this?

Say it out loud with me….

This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.

When we speak it…we speak truth to our own ears, minds, and hearts.

Do you believe that God alone is your refuge and place of safety?

Is He really your God?  Do you really trust Him?

Several years ago, you might remember me mentioning this before, the Holy Spirit whispered to me….”Do you really trust Him?  My response was, “I hope I do. ”

Since then I have found that He is trustworthy.

I also found that the only thing that gets in the way of trusting Him is me.  I also discovered that in order to trust Him I had to put myself in my place by acknowledging God…who He is…His character….His attributes, etc.  And then…everything gets settled.

When I am in my place and He is in His place….He is my refuge, my place of safety, and I trust Him.

And then…I can breathe.

And rest.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest…

Are you feeling anxious or weary?

What do you need to change in order to live in His shelter?

Have you discovered the secret to rest?

    4. Providing funds to pay our bills.
    5. Giving my daughter a beautiful singing voice and hearing her lead the Praise Team in the church every Sunday.
    6. Healing my husband.
    7. The love of my parents who raised me in a Christian home and pointed me to the Cross when I was a child.

    • Diane says

Thank you for sharing your ‘seven’ Christy!
I rejoice with you at God’s goodness and blessing in your life.
May your week overflow with JOY!!

  2. Mel says

    My seven:
    * the trip to the river museum with the wee one–we saw awesome thing!
    * the help of friends and strangers with sandbagging
    * the wrong predictions of the weatherman…..LOL…true!
    * being able to help with supervision of the 4 year old–she’s such a bundle of joy in and of herself
    * bubbles with their prism colours, floating away my ‘troubles’
    * sunshine with a dash of decent breezes, being soggy makes that extra special
    * lightening bugs

Thank you G-d for taking such good care of my friends! And yes, I get ‘worried’ about some things. Much like you, I know the barrier is ME. I stayed resentful with G-d over something for years. Since I owned that to Him and another person, the relationship between Him and I has changed dramatically–but I still can get in my way. Frequently…..*sigh* Which is why aligning myself with folks who’ll remind me, is a very good thing.
    Thank you for that.
((((((( Diane ))))))))))) Wonderful photos to remind me. I don’t know that I’ll pass the flower by without thinking of that ‘rest’ now. Which, if you’re me, is a very very good thing!

    • Diane says

I love your ‘seven’ Mel!! Such joy in heart for the silver lining of life and in God’s blessings. 🙂
Ah…rest….if the sweet Clematis can now be your reminder…how special. His rest is so much better than ours. Oh if we can only stay on track to enjoy it each day.
You are too kind, my friend. I think maybe it’s a divine appointment. 😉

  3. Debbi says

The Seven things that I am Thankful for this week:

That the exact amount I needed to pay my neighbor who has just lost his job came in the exact amount needed.
Becoming a full time employee after being a 2year part time l0 month employee.
For the wonderful Christian Women God has brought into my life.
    My health.
My beautiful garden and the creatures great and small that inhabit it.
    My family.
My still being in my home….

    • Diane says

Oh, Debbi…isn’t God so good? I praise Him with you for His wonderful gifts in your life this week.
Thank you for taking the time to share your ‘seven.’
May your week overflow with HIS joy!

  4. Beth says

I love your words, Diane, “When our whole trust is in Him….we breathe in rest. We exhale…rest.” After the week and weekend I’ve just had that’s exactly what my heart’s desire is. Thanks for this reminder and for sharing how God has met your need in just the right time–stretching your faith in Him in the process. 🙂

    • Diane says

      Kind, sweet, Beth….
I know this is late in reaching you, but I trust that you have been able to find that rest in HIM that you seek.
      God is good. 🙂
May your week be filled in extraordinary measure with HIS JOY and rest.
      [hugs]
      Diane

  5. I’m thanking God for a day at home with nowhere to go!

I said the verse aloud that you asked us to. Powerful words. Thanks for encouraging me to find rest in the Lord, and to trust his timing, even when it seems he is last minute. 🙂

    • Diane says

Yay! For a day at home! Nothing like spending the day in our own sanctuary. 🙂
Oh, Lisa, I sure get the last minute bit. 😉 We just need to remember…he goes before us and behind us.
Isn’t it good to know that we can truly trust him. 🙂
      Blessings!
      Diane
