A long time ago.

That would be last year.  [wink]

Our lower level laundry room/closet and bathroom were completely gutted.  It was the biggest mess I have ever seen.  But, there was a silver lining in it.  We were able to make a few very minor changes to make the laundry space more comfortable to use and give the primed walls a few coats of sweet buttery yellow.

Here’s a photo of what it looked like before the mechanical renovation which I shared about here.  I quickly snapped a before photo because I thought the floor tile was going to be coming up.  It’s not a terrific shot…but gives you an idea of things.  Once the project began we learned that only the bathroom floor needed to be replaced.  I was thrilled…that tile was even more ‘dramatic’ than this one. But, since we rent this home, there are some things that I have to live with, like this stunning blue & gold tile floor.   [Sigh]  Overall, I cannot complain.  This is a very nice basement.

Once I realized that I had a small window of time to paint and make a major but minor change to the laundry room/closet I devised a plan.  And that was….

to take this space from dreary and drab to delightful.

Right now I am in the midst of decorating the space and doing a little more painting.

And I’m still leaning towards some of the ideas that I shared here.

Only now….I have no budget.  Zero.  And because the house is going up on the market any day now, it really doesn’t matter.  Except.  Except that I’m big on finishing.  I really want to see my ideas played out.  And, I’m thinking you do, too.

A girl can dream.

She can even talk to her fairy godmother.

But, I’m pretty sure not many of us will have a laundry room/closet looking as magnificent as this….

Not your ordinary laundry room - AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Have you ever felt like you needed to lie down in the midst of doing laundry?  Well here you go!  [wink]

Okay…neither of us will probably ever have a laundry room that looks like this.  But, on the other hand….what does it take to make a very ordinary laundry room/ closet that looks like mine, extraordinary?

I guess you’ll have to wait and see!  [big cheesy grin]

I’m wondering….
What closet, room, corner, etc., have you (like me) been putting off until tomorrow?

Want to join me in finishing a project?

Or maybe, starting?

I’d love to hear whatever it is.

Colossians 3:12 Graphic Image

Who loves to do laundry?

I know a few of you do.  It can be a wonderful act of service to our family members.  But, essentially, it’s about cleaning clothes.   We want to be clean and look good when we go out in the world.

I came across this image of a scripture verse we’ve been mediating on lately at our house.

It reminds me that more important than a lovely laundry room, or even nice clean clothes, is the character with which we clothe ourselves.

Colossians 3:12 says…Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

So…now that I’ve shared this laundry room/closet project with you, and the importance of finishing what I’ve started, I need to get moving!!    Laundry room….get ready for some pretty!!

Talk to you soon!

And…go make some ordinary thing…extraordinary!

Diane

  1. Oh yes, Must Lie Down, LOL! but I do love the BHG laundry / mud room. Can’t wait to see how it turns out, because I’ll be doing this same thing next year 😉

  2. I’m one of those women that love to do laundry! My favorite part is hanging them on the line. And the smell of sheets dried outside…. love it!

Good luck with finishing your laundry room project! I look forward to seeing the cheery results!

    • I have never hung sheets on the line. Gee Whiz! I guess that makes me a bonified city girl!! 🙂
You’ll laugh….I don’t mind the laundry either. What I do mind is figuring out how to get stains out of things. That is not my talent.
      Thanks for the best wishes!!
      ~Diane

  3. I dream of some day having the laundry room of my dreams, but I have to confess, my DH does all of the laundry ~ I have a list too long of the projects to do but will begin shortly doing some renovations to sell our current home and try to find our dream home for those Golden Years ~ So happy to be getting a heads up to some of the great projects you are sharing so that when my day comes I’ll have a better idea of what I would truly like to have 🙂 P.S. ~ I clicked your FB page link and it didn’t work ~ Judi

    • Oh….I think you are one lucky gal, Judi!! 🙂
      It is fun dreaming….
And thanks for the heads up about my link. Fixed it!!
Hope your day has been Extraordinary!

  4. I enjoy doing laundry. One of those jobs like cutting grass – you see the obvious need, do the task, and can clearly see results, with no emotional drain, and little mental input. Start, do, end. I find that a comfort from stress. So if I’m having a bad day, you will find me doing laundry

    • You are so right, Gail! That is a good feeling to see an empty basket and fresh clean clothes hanging in the closet. 🙂
      Blessings!
      ~Diane

  5. Oy geeze…laundry…the gift that keeps giving! LOL. Can you guess that I’m not a fan?! Gimme the lawn mower or a snow shovel even! Yup, we do have a bit of a ‘role reversal’going on in this house. He cooks and cleans and does the laundry, and I supervise. LOL. AND I adore power tools! Dangerous with a drill….lethal with a sledge hammer. I tore out and installed new spotlights and ceiling for the train room…and rewired it. LOL. And knocked out a wall one afternoon on a whim to redo the bathroom…and put new tile down cuz I could. I’ve been eyeing the livingroom walls and contemplating what light would happen and where the retaining wall is and whether I could manage it on crutches. Not on a dime. LOL. But a girl can dream, eh? Paint a dresser in a cast maybe? *sigh* Thinking I’ll haffta delay THAT level of project for a bit….but I’m looking for one I can do as I sit for 10 weeks!
    :-/ Again!!
Bit worrisome as I ponder the impact of the house going on the market…..but I shall keep praying and hoping!

    • Haha! Yes…the never ending gift. I do think that gift is much better on the gifter’s side than the receiver’s side. Yes?
I’m with you …. I love the tools too! Guess I’m an all-around gal…I’ll take it all. But, I’d rather play than clean any day. But YOU!! Holy Cow!! A one woman demo and remodeling crew. Once you get rid of those crutches, “Look out!!!”
Ah…thanks for the concern and prayers. I’m working on the “do not worry or fret” thing. 😉

  6. How great to have a renovation going on. I am going to be painting my laundry room but it will not be as dramatic as yours. Dianntha

    • Oh my friend….mine really isn’t all that dramatic. 😉
But….it is fun….and it makes my heart sing to make it pretty.
      [hugs]
      ~Diane

  7. Diane, I can hardly wait to see all the pretties you come up with for your laundry room. No lounging necessary, so forget that chair! That pictured room is beautiful, but a little too fru-fru for the function the room requires. I laughed out loud when I realized we share the same thoughts about that chaise!
    His blessings,
    Kim

    • You are so sweet Kim! I wish it could be a bit more. But, with a zero budget I just need to be extra creative. 😉
Haha! I’m glad you enjoyed the chaise, too. Maybe that’s where we’ll recline while we read magazines and eat bon bons while we supervise our minions. [wink] Isn’t it fun being silly?

  8. Dear Diane! I wish I had the space to place a laundry……But I don’t…! In my opinion, what makes yours extraordinary, is the couch. I love your couch…!

  9. Oh Eleni…
I didn’t mean to suggest that lovely room with the chaise was mine. I showed it because it was, to me, the ultimate in a laundry room. Beautiful and comfortable. And I agree…that couch/chaise makes it extraordinary for sure!!!!! 🙂
My laundry room will be much humbler when it is complete. But, I have a laundry space and for that I am grateful. 🙂

  10. I love the hanger with the reference to col. Is it a purchasable item. You have some great ideas!
