I've been having so much fun creating a coastal Christmas for my home this year.  Thanks to a little gift of posies from my friends at FTD, I will show you how to make your Christmas tree elegant with fresh flowers.  It's a fun twist on my handcrafted coastal Christmas corner tree.     We spend a ton of time in this little corner, so I decided to let my creativity run wild with coastal-style ideas. It all started with making the wall-hanging, over the sofa, festive for the holidays with hanging mason jars and miniature Christmas trees and baubles. A short time later I joined in the Home … [Read more...]

In busyness of the season, you may have missed my popular series, Creating Christmas Memories with Vignettes. Each week we were blessed by one of my blogging friends as they shared their Christmas Memories with a special vignette or maybe several.  More than anything, I loved the stories they shared.  Our heart strings seem to be more sensitive this time of year.   Maybe now that everything is decorated, you'll enjoy their posts in a new and fresh way.  It's a good time to take a look at your decor and make plans now to create Christmas memories to be treasured with vignettes. If you missed the … [Read more...]

Christmas Baking Vignette   What a treat to be here visiting my friend Diane at An Extraordinary Day! I was so excited when Diane told me that she was hosting a series on Christmas vignettes.   I love the idea of creating small vignettes in my home. It's an easy way to break decorating into small manageable bites. And that is especially welcome at the holidays when decorating the whole house can feel quite overwhelming.     Today I'm sharing a simple little vignette that sits on my kitchen counter and it's all about family traditions and baking Christmas cookies.     I … [Read more...]

Have you noticed them?   Christmas trees on cars?  Or maybe campers even? I can't tell you how many Christmas trees on cars we saw on our drive home at Thanksgiving. We live near several Christmas tree farms, so really it should be no surprise.     There's something wonderful about seeing a car (or truck) with a tree tied on. There's something special about bringing home a fresh-cut tree. I like to think that each car I see is filled with joy and anticipation. And I imagine the plans being made to decorate that perfect evergreen treasure for … [Read more...]

Coffee Table Vignette   I was honored and delighted when Diane asked me to share a Christmas vignette here at An Extraordinary Day. I love her heart and her penchant for creating beautiful vignettes from nature.  I must admit, I haven't decorated for Christmas yet as I am getting ready for a craft show next weekend. Once that is over, then I will be decking the halls! However, I did put together a coffee table vignette that holds some very special memories for myself and my family.     When the children were little, I purchased a special Christmas story book each year, early … [Read more...]

Have you given much thought to outdoor decorating for Christmas? I'm sure you've seen the homes with all the colorful light displays and entryways beautifully festooned with greens and lights.     Today I'm sharing an idea for decorating those areas that are more personal.  The ones not seen from the street... such as the back porch.  The places where you'll enjoy your favorite things with a holiday or wintry flair.     As I was going through some old photos, I discovered I took several pictures of an outdoor wintry garden vignette on my back porch.  This was … [Read more...]

The Most Meaningful Vignette   Sweet Diane, invited me to join in on her 'Creating Christmas Memories with Vignettes" series, and I think it's such a wonderful way to welcome the holiday season.   Christmas is such a wonderful time of year to create new memories in your home with family and friends through new traditions, and through memorable and meaningful vignettes.     Fall and Christmas are my favorite times of year to decorate our home . . . and although my decor and vignettes change year to year, there are a few vignettes that make an appearance every year. our … [Read more...]

Manger Scene Memories   I am happy to join Diane for Creating Christmas Memories with Vignettes. She asked if I would create a vignette and tell a story and the first thing that came to me was to share this manger scene.  This was the manger scene of my childhood.  I happened to inherit it last Christmas.     The thing I remember most about this was how crazy I was about Baby Jesus. I used to sit and look at this manger and stare and play with Baby Jesus; I was maybe four, it is one of my earliest memories.     I have always been enamored with babies.  I went … [Read more...]

Inspiring Christmas Vignettes Hello. I’m so happy to be here today on An Extraordinary Day. Diane is such a talented and wonderful blogger and I was thrilled she asked me to share some of my Christmas vignettes with you. I hope you enjoy my projects.  Creative Decor   Vintage Button Snowflake Ornament  |  Miniature Yule Log  |  Apple Advent Countdown  | Winter Centerpiece  |  Brown Paper Packages Advent  … [Read more...]

Merry Christmas!! I am the light that has come into the world  so that everyone who believes in me  will not live in the dark.   John 12:46     Today we light the Christ candle and celebrate Jesus, the Light, who came into the world to free us from the oppression of darkness. I've been contemplating this concept of Jesus being the light of the world lately.  And wouldn't you know, last night I attended a Christmas Eve service and the theme of the service was about Jesus being the light.   Isn't that just like God?     The time when Jesus entered this world as a babe was … [Read more...]

Since it's Christmas Eve and you don't have lots of time to read.... Just for fun....Let's take a look at some sweet red and white Christmas kitchen vignettes.     My friend and I had a bit of fun arranging items in her lovely red and white kitchen for Christmas.     It would be so fun to have you over for some Christmas cookies and a cup of Christmas tea....     I love this old hutch combo.  The upper cabinet originally came from an old New York post office and the bottom is a garage sale chest of drawers which my friend painted in just the sweetest … [Read more...]

This year I have enjoyed playing with nature's elements. You might remember my pampas grass wreath here, my grapevine wreath decorated with privet berries and colorful leaves here, or my oak leaf branches here. These are all items that get pruned, raked up, composted, or burned.  But for me, they have been a treasure for creating woodland home decor.     Winterberry is my new favorite for Christmas decor. Actually it isn't a new favorite, it's just that Michigan has more wetlands than either New York or Pennsylvania where I lived for the past 13 years, and it's been that long since … [Read more...]

Grapevine wreaths can be so very easy to decorate with for most holidays. You might remember my Easter Egg Wreath or my Natural Fall Wreath.  Both were quick and simple to make. This Grapevine and Winterberry Noel Wreath was also easy to put together.     Early this fall I created a few grapevine wreaths from those growing up in the trees nearby.   They're easy to make and they're free.  Yay!     I've been having lots of fun decorating with Winterberry or Michigan Holly which grows in wetlands.  I love their vivid red color.  They really add a colorful pop to all the … [Read more...]

Do you love attending home tours? When you go on a holiday home tour, what are you hoping to see? Have you attended any holiday home tours this year?   I bet you'd love to take a tour of my home.  We can't do that this year since everything I own is packed up in storage, but how about we push the button on the time machine and go back in time? Are you ready? Here's a link to some holiday fun at my last house. Be sure to 'sign the guest book' and let me know if you picked up any ideas or what you most liked.   Oh...you're wondering about the 12 Days of Christmas?   We're … [Read more...]

There are just 16 days until Christmas arrives. Are you ready to have a panic attack or does this heighten your anticipation?     Christmas looks different to all of us depending upon our circumstances. I remember re-runs of an old PBS sitcom...."Keeping Up Appearances."  The main character, Hyacinth Bucket, was overly concerned about looking good to the "important" people of  the world.  She wanted those of her "stature" in life or less, to see her as impeccable in every way, equal to those of wealth and high social standing.  She even went so far as to pronounce her last name as … [Read more...]
