I love the word metamorphosis.

You too?

This weekend, I had a sun room metamorphosis of sorts, as I notched up my spring decor.

You’ll remember I talked about it last week here.  And before that, I decorated it with red and snowflakes for winter here, and for Valentine’s Day here, and for Christmas here.

The biggest change is the addition of flowering branches.

Do you see them?

They were so. very. difficult to photograph.  Seriously impossible.

In my quest for decent pictures I took photos on multiple days.

Metamorphosis :: Spring Decor :: Forsythia Wreath :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

You’ll notice that some of the photos are taken on a sunny day.  Yup.  We had ONE!!!

The others…on not-so-sunny days.

Actually today was a cloudy snowy day.

What is it with April?  Didn’t she get the memo?  Spring arrived more than 10 days ago!!

Or maybe, Mother Nature is in cahoots with April and they are pranking us for April Fools!

Yellow is the perfect splash for a room's Metamorphosis :: Spring Decor :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

The second big change was hanging my old forsythia wreath in the window.

I absolutely love it!!  It’s like having a sunny orb in the house.  Almost.

Just in case you’re into details…several years ago I wanted a forsythia wreath for my front door.  Everywhere I went those bright golden wreaths required real gold to purchase.  They were expensive.  But, at a stop to A.C. Moore…I miss that place…do they have one by you? …I saw that I could purchase a garland of forsythia for about half the price.  Since I have a tendency to remake things and had a small twiggy wreath form hanging around, I just wired the garland to the wreath form and voila! I had my wreath!  Oh…and if I remember I had a coupon…more savings!!

Forsythia Vignette :: Metamorphosis :: Spring Decor :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

The other change was to move the white cabinet at an angle across the corner of the room….which necessitated the rescued wicker chair be moved too.  If you have a really good memory, you’ll also notice that I changed out the pillow on the chair to one I made a few years ago.  Are those ruffles still in?

And in case you’re wondering about the pretty eggs in those even prettier Longaberger Baskets…

Those eggs are the real deal and all were blown by my husband.  (I know, I’m blessed.  Or he got tired of picking me up off the floor from fainting from all my efforts to blow out the eggs.)   I dyed those eggs with food coloring.  That was my Easter project about three years ago.  The eggs are kept in egg cartons for storage and even survived a state to state move.

Sunny Sun Room Metamorphosis :: Spring Decor :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

My sweet tabby cat wanted to be in on the photo session.  It required a bit of patience on my part as I had to wait until she was looking at me to snap the picture.

Animals are always a plus.  Right?

Daffodils :: Metamorphosis :: Spring Decor :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Did you notice my daffodils are holding up pretty well?  Formerly prop stars from my traveling show of old, they have weathered well and are vying with the forsythia to steal the sun room’s show.

So what do you think of the sun room metamorphosis?

I’m pretty happy with it.

Really who doesn’t like a bit of spring decor to brighten up the house?

Hang flowering branches in a room :: Metamorphosis :: Spring Decor :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

I almost forgot.  We never talked about those flowering  branches.  Aren’t they lovely?

You are going to flip when you hear this.

They are in reality book-page flowering branches.  Yes!  I made them.

I’ve got your attention now.  [ear-to-ear-grin]

Sorry…I’m going to make you wait until tomorrow when I’ll share a big splashy tutorial.

The wait is over….here is the tutorial!

I just want you to know that I am super blessed when you take the time to stop by, leave your thoughtful remarks, and even share and pin the posts you like.   Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Joyfully,

Diane

  1. Very pretty! Yellow always just sings spring to me.

I’ve had to take photos in multiple days just to get a couple of good ones. So I sympathize but your photos came out great!

    • Diane says

Yay! Another yellow lover in the house!! 🙂
Thank you for your kind words Manuela!
      Wishing you an Extraordinary week!

  2. Carolyn says

Diane, we must be kindred spirits for I also really get enthralled with changing my decor with the seasons. I have my very old big honeycomb paper egg w/a chick peeping out that I bought when our firstborn son was born. We were packing to go to So Amer as missionaries & I wanted him to see how we decorated “back home in the States” while we were down there. God gave us two daughters as time went by & we moved from that country to another & later to another. My Easter decor went with me. There were also large & medium honeycomb paper eggs in lovely pastel colors. It was great to be able to fold it all up & slip into a large paper envelope headed for one of our missionary barrels! Ahhhhh, memories!

    • Diane says

I love hearing your decorating story as a missionary, Carolyn! A friend recently referred to some things stored in ‘those’ barrels at her house from her parents’ (hers too) time serving abroad. I can only imagine the wonderful experiences you have to share.
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. 🙂
      May your week be Extraordinary!

  3. Dawn says

Love what you have done with the sun porch and nothing is better than forsythia. We are still getting the snow in my neck of the woods too. I don’t think anything green is ever going to happen here. Thanks for linking up at the Cabin this week, do you mind adding my link to your “sharing” section? Have a wonderful week!

    • Diane says

Thank you so much Dawn! Forsythia always puts a smile on my face. That yellow is so cheerful and happy. It warmed up today…and will keep going up all week….with rain in the forecast too. I think we are finally going to see some spring. (Your link is on my blog….maybe I hadn’t refreshed before you stopped by.)

  4. OH, this is just so beautiful! I love it and wish it were mine! 🙂
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

    • Diane says

Awww…what a nice thing to say! I’m feeling so blessed, Sheila!
      Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

  5. I love love love all the metamorphosis of spring in your home! The yellow forsythia steals my heart!!! Just beautiful!

    • Diane says

When I brought out the forsythia it was just like bringing out my personal pot of sunshine. 🙂
Thank you for your lovely encouraging words, Yvonne!
      Blessings!

  6. Such a lovely display, Diane! Thanks for sharing at Project Inspire{d} ~ pinning!

    Hugs, Mary Beth

    • Diane says

      Awww…thanks, Mary Beth!
      Blessings sent your way!

  7. Dona says

Truly love forsythia……to remember the name, my mom used to call it “Poor Cynthia”…..so naturally I do, too. I don’t think it does well here in AZ, but I’ve got lots of the faux kind around! Thanks for your always uplifting posts!

    • Diane says

I’ve never heard it referred to in that way….how sweet. I shall remember it now, too.
Enjoy your faux ‘Poor Cynthia’…it will last much longer. 🙂 That’s the lovely up side. And there’s always an up side. Yes?
Thank you for your kind thoughts and words of encouragement Dona!
      Wishing you an Extraordinary week!

  8. I love all the pops of yellow and spring accessories! Beautiful job! I found you at Home Stories A to Z–thanks for sharing!

    ~Abby =)

    • Diane says

You are so nice to say that Abby! Thank you!!
Wishing you a sunny and beautiful day! 🙂

  9. Glenda Kremer says

your pictures are all always so great –the reason I keep writing that you should start a photography business and you have not yet replied so I keep wondering why not???????
    hugs
    Glenda

    • Diane says

      Thank you Glenda!!
Oh, but I have replied. I hope my replies didn’t go to your spam. 🙁
      Blessings!

  10. Dayle says

There’s nothing quite as refreshing, and cheerful, as pure sunshine, and the color yellow. Lovely!

    • Diane says

      Thank you Dayle! 🙂
Wishing you baskets of sunshine today!

  11. JaneEllen says

Every time I see forsythias I miss our bushes that grew so faithfully in front yard in KY. They were so pretty. Smart idea of yours wrapping the garland around a wreath, hey whatever works huh? With all the bright cheery yellow you have on your porch it sure says Spring. Looks so Springy and happy. The winter is not wanting to give up in many areas still. We had couple days with low 70’s, high 60’s. With our dry climate here those temps feel really good. Saw so many people running around in shorts and flip flops. But this week will be 50’s, that’s ok as before we know it we’ll be complaining of the heat.
    Your pictures are great.

    • Diane says

Thanks JaneEllen!! I hear you about the weather! Here in PA we had snow flurries every day (even today!)…sometimes enough to cover the grass.
      Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

  12. Mel says

20’s…..and holding. Oh, we had a day of near 50–and then right back down into the 30’s….and 20’s. *sigh* Silly groundhog.
Ah, but spring is all over in that little sunroom of yours. And it’s lovely. LOL The kitty has the right idea–lounge around while you climb and clamor about trying to get a decent photo! 😉
NOW I’m all about what’s coming for the tutorial–with the branches in our yard, I’m half way there! NOT that I’m going to be out there picking ’em up! I’ll send he-who-does-everything….and I’ll file egg-blowing away for next year. *snickering* Thanks for the tip!
The room is just lovely with the splashes of sunshine….even in absence of sunlight! Well done, you!

    • Diane says

Okay Mel…that is just tooo cold. I went through “Phil’s” hometown last weekend and had a good talk with him about winter and spring. I don’t think that he heard me. He’s got a real attitude you know with all those little “Puxy Phil” statues all over town. 🙂
The tutorial is half finished….but…since it seems like spring blossoms will never get here I better hurry up and finish it to post today so you and everyone else can make your own springy branches regardless of the weather 🙂 It’s so fun and easy.
Hope your day is Extraordinary, my friend, just like you!!

  13. Your sunroom does say Spring! Love the wreath! After winter there is just something about forsythia and daffs that make one’s heart sing!

    • Diane says

Yes! Yes! Yes! And when the sun decides to pop out…my heart sings even more!
Hope your day is full of sunshine and joy!

  14. Diane, I love your Spring touches! So beautiful! I have a new weekly link party which is live now and I would love if you stop by and link up this wonderful post! Hope to see you there! http://mariaelenasdecor.blogspot.com/
    Hugs
    Maria

    • Diane says

Thank you Maria Elena! You are so kind! I am on my way over now! 🙂

  15. Sharon @ Elizabeth & Co. says

What a bright and happy room! Love all the spring touches and the sun streaming through the windows!

    • Diane says

Seriously Sharon…the sunshine is the very best part! I might just become a sun worshiper this summer. (In the good sense.) Haahaa!
Thanks for popping by with your encouraging words! 🙂

  16. Oh what a fabulous room and I love the yellow. The forsythia wreath is so pretty and the tablescape is perfect. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

I will be by! Thank you for the invitation.
      Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

  18. Carol says

Anything “yellow” pretty much does it for me; well, maybe add in some turquoise, since I’m crushing on that color right now! Oh, and I love forsythia. I wish we could grow it here.

    • Diane says

Oh…you’re inspiring me now, Carol!! Hmmm…I wonder what my next iteration of this room will be? 🙂
Thanks for stopping by today! Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

Just wanted to let you know Fishtail Cottage’s Garden Party will be starting up again in May (Thursday May 2nd) Would love to have you come over and link up again and again! Hope you have a great weekend! xoxo, tracie

Oh…garden time. I can not wait. Except I will probably be moving in the new month or so and that means starting over. Again. I think I’ll need to garden vicariously through your blog and linky party. 🙂 Thanks for the invite. 🙂

  32. Hi, Diane! Yes….wonderful metamorphosis! You did a great job of bringing Spring into your home despite what may have been going on outside! It’s that way all over the country. Only in the last couple of days have we had weather worthy of being associated with Spring. It’s crazy!

Your husband blew all those eggs??!?!?!!! Kudos to him! That is one of the hardest things in the world to do in my book! He must be a trumpet player with cheeks already tuned up for that! 🙂

Congrats on your great bargain buys! Shopping those sales and using those coupons really comes in handy, doesn’t it!??

Have a wonderful weekend! Thanks for sharing your terrific changes!

    • Diane says

      Hi Alycia!
After a few warm springs, we sure are an itchy bunch. Yes? I wonder what that means for summer? Hopefully it will be beautiful to make up for all these snowy days. 🙂
I know…can you believe he blew out all those eggs? It doesn’t stop there, though. My friend has been sharing fresh eggs with me from her friend and there are lots of blue and green eggs in the mix and he has blown those out for me too. I think I’ll keep him! 🙂
It’s a wee bit warmer here today…hope it is at your house too!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughtful comments, Alycia. 🙂
      Wishing you an Extraordinary weekend!

Thanks for stopping by Lora! Hope your week is Extraordinary!

  48. Wow, so lovely, wish I had a sun room, it is snowing today, so your beautiful room is inspiration for the good weather to come. I do have a forsythia out front that is in bloom, hoping the snow does not end the beautiful color of yellow. Love the room, lovely! Hope to see you visit and follow

    • Diane says

Oh. No! Snow and blooming forsythia are not a good thing. I remember last year we got a freeze and our blossoms turned dark droopy. Hopefully the snow won’t cause as much damage.
Thanks for stopping by Marilyn, and for leaving your encouraging words!
      Blessings!

  49. Your sun room looks beautiful! I love the yellow and blue, and that yellow wreath is so pretty. Thanks so much for sharing at A Bouquet of Talent.

  56. I love your sunroom decoration and those bookpage blooms! The daffodils are gorgeous and the pop of blue are a nice compliment to all the yellow flowers.

Lovely space! The daffodils and forsythia definitely say spring to me, and I’m impressed with your real eggs. I’ve several boxes of the same that I did years ago. 😉
    Look forward to your tutorial.

  58. What a pretty sunny place to sit and enjoy spring! The wreath is so pretty in the window. I sometimes purposely get my cat in my pictures. There is just something peaceful about a lounging cat! Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great week! ~Deborah
