Spring Decor DIY :: Tulip & Forsythia Wreath with Mr. Bunny :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

I’m loving this dramatic moment on my cabinet. It’s a simple tulip wreath DIY project anyone can do. And by now, you must know I love quick and easy DIY projects.

What is it about spring?  Are we so staved for color after a long cold gray winter that we are more than willing to put together such a glorious mix of colors?  I surely am.  In my sun room, anyway.

Do you gravitate towards color in the spring, too?

Summer…that’s a different story.  Though many plant reds and yellows together in the summer garden, mine will usually be filled with white, purple, pink, blue, and a dash of soft yellow.  Somehow red…as much as it is one of my favorite colors…is reserved for spring and winter.  And now that I’ve said that red will probably appear this year.  Haha!

Forsythia & Colorful Tulip Wreath DIY :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

This has been a favorite wreath of mine for some time.  It looks like brand new…but in fact it is several years old.

Sometime ago I picked up a skinny twiggy wreath that was embellished with just a few sprigs of forsythia at my local Jo-Ann Fabric &  Crafts.  The wreath was just too sparse for my taste and I didn’t think it would show well from the street.  But, the price was right.  What does a girl do then?  She goes hunting…at least in the store.  As I walked through the floral department I spied some assorted bun of colorful tulips.  Though I don’t recall how many bunches I purchased, I do remember that they were on sale at a deep discount.  Gotta love a great sale!

Once home, I took my wire cutters (sometimes I use tin snips because they give me more leverage for cutting those tough stems) to each of the tulip bunches.  I cut each stem at the base where it was joined on the bunch.  Then it was fairly easy to stick the stems into the tightly bound twiggy wreath base.  I attempted to arrange the tulips so that they had a natural look, yet the colors were not random in their placement.

If you look closely you’ll see that I worked the stems around the twiggy base for a neat look and to help them hold snugly as well.  It worked as this wreath hung on my front door and beautifully survived Western New York’s fierce spring windstorms. The only other assembly needed was for the sweet little nest to be wired to the wreath form and the eggs hot glued in place.  The wreath would look complete without the nest if your prefer.

How do you like the look of the wreath on my cabinet in the sun room? I think Mr. Bunny looks pretty cute with the tulip wreath.  He even has a bow tie (that originally graced my little bucket of candy gift) in the perfect yellow to go with the forsythia.

It’s pretty clear that I have too much fun playing in the sun room.  I’m sure you’re wondering what else I have up my sleeve.  Haha!  We’ll both have to wait and see.

Blossom by Blossom the Spring begins :: Tulip Wreath DIY :: ExtraordinaryDay.net

Today it started to actually look a bit like spring outside.  A few daffodils were blooming along my walk.  Pure sunshine!  I think my pace quickened a bit after seeing them.  And the birds!  It’s truly a symphony in my back yard.

This isn’t my usual step by step tutorial.  I hope you still get the idea of how easily you can create your own personalized wreath from an inexpensive store-bought wreath that needs help and make it into something that’s a joy to behold.  And is inviting for your front door.  Or…as in my case…the sun room cabinet.

Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary!  A bit of fresh spring home decor for just a few dollars.

I hope you’ll make your own tulip wreath DIY project now.   I’d love to see your creations.  Share your photo on ‘our’ Facebook page.  All of us would love to see your creativity.

Now…be Extraordinary!

Oh gosh…..JUST the right splash of colour for that cabinet in the sun room. I can’t wait to see what you did/are doing to make my coffee/your cocoa/tea/beverage of your choice table come to life! Seriously….you’re such a creative soul. And how could he not feel special with the extra efforts you go to just in that one little spot! I pulled the bunny placemats from the coffee nook and tossed on plain yellow ones. LOL NOT the same, but there’s my confession for the week.
Maybe I need to pick that spot and just focus on one little corner of our world instead of trying to decorate a whole house and becoming overwhelmed in my current physical limitations. (yes, I tend to think BIG and get overwhelmed at the undertaking……this is why my half made banner needs to be for the 4th of July instead of spring!!…LOLOL)
I adore the simple shifts, the stealing of the bucket ribbon to adorn the Mr. Bunny….it’s those little shifts that make everything new.
    Darn…..you’re GOOD! LOL

    • Diane says

You did it again Mel! You should see my face. I’ve got an ear-to-ear silly grin.
Oh I do think you should pick a spot to decorate and focus on it…cause it’s working for me…and I’m thinking it will for you too. It is just too easy to get overwhelmed. And I think that when you have a spot it just feels good to look at it. You are too funny about that banner, though. Spring is hardly here…I think you’ll get it done and up in no time. Thanks for all your encouraging words. You made my day!

Funny…today I was watching the message from my home church in Michigan and the pastor suggested that they all were living in a black and white TV set. 😉
I guess it’s been pretty gray in a lot of places.
Thanks for your sweet words Pamela!

  39. Doni says

I love the pop of color that the wreath makes on your doorway, very springy!! AND the one inside on the cupboard is wonderful! Really brings the brightness of the sun indoors…I need that too in my home since it’s so dark in here. A wreath with bright colors may just help out! Thanks so much for the inspiration and for joining my party!!

  40. Sonia says

I love this! Living in tropical Australia, we have two seasons… The Wet and The Dry. We’re just entering the Dry now and the weather is glorious, rather like I imagine your welcoming of Spring! 🙂
My favourite part of the wreath is the nest with the little eggs inside..!
I’m visiting today from DIY Home Sweet Home 🙂

    • Diane says

      Hi Sonia!
Hmmm…we don’t have wet/dry seasons in my neck of the woods, though sometimes it gets dry in the summer as it did last year and that brings about major crop failures. Hope that doesn’t happen again. But…glorious weather…that would be spring and fall here…though this year it has been slow to warm up. But, now that the flowers are blooming…every day is beautiful!
Thanks for your nice remarks about the wreath!
      Hope your week is Extraordinary!

  41. A breath of spring! Man do I need that!! We’ve had an ice storm and snow last week. The birds are singing today though. Your wreath is darling. Love those quick and easy projects! Thank you for sharing it at to What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a lovely week!

  48. Kathe says

With the bitter cold spring snow storms we have been having, I’m pretty sure my real tulips are toast! I know my forsythia bush is 🙁 Thank goodness you shared this beautiful wreath at my party this week so I could revel in the beautiful colors! Thank you!! I’m featuring this post on my Facebook page too!

    • Diane says

Oh I hope your tulips are still safe under all that snow….they are really pretty hearty when it comes to freezing temps. That forsythia belongs to the pansy family. Though having said that…pansies are pretty tough. I wonder where that phrase of ‘being a pansy’ ever came from?
Thanks for your kind words. And thanks for the feature!! You are so sweet!
