My favorite way to ring in the New Year is by hosting a party at home.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen that often. Usually after an incredibly busy Christmas season I have run out of steam and my party is just a dream by New Year’s Eve.
This year I had fun putting together a few ideas to ring in the New Year.
They aren’t New Year’s Eve specific. If you host friends or family for a New Year’s brunch to watch the Rose Parade (Some day I’m going to see those floats up-close and personal and even behind the scenes!) or a lovely sit down dinner, you’ll love creating special memory book favors or easy beaded cookies. You might even go crazy like I did a few years ago and make a New Year’s wreath or a really glitzy tablescape. One thing I know you’ll want to do, is to fill a candy dish with these super simple little golden nuggets.
Whenever we go to the Chinese take-away we come home with fortune cookies. I love those little proverbs or encouragements. Usually they’re interesting, sometimes they’re funny, but once in a while, that little piece of paper has such a great saying that I might pin it up to remember. That was the impetus I had in creating these little golden nuggets. These golden nuggets are words of wisdom and scripture verses attached to a caramel candy. They just might get pinned on an idea or bulletin board or slipped into a wallet or coin purse for a later reminder. The one you receive might just be the nugget that starts your year on the right foot. It might even give you a word or thought or focus or resolution for the New Year.
This is a super quick and easy project that you could even get the kids to do for you.

- Download the Golden Nuggets Printable.
- Print out the Golden Nuggets phrases on lightweight card stock. (Or save to a memory stick and take to Staples for printing.)
- Using the golden lines as a guide, cut out the Golden Nuggets phrases.
- Place a mounting square on the blank space at the end of the strip of paper containing the phrase.
- Place a Rolo on the mounting square and press firmly.
I think that the Golden Nugget… “Do everything with love. -1 Corinthians 16:14” might be a life-changing nugget to live by. What do you think?
There are 36 different nuggets of inspiration on the printable. I think my bag of Rolos had 20 pieces in it… so you can choose which ones you want to use for your guests. Which one would be perfect for you to start the new year?
Fill a small dish with Golden Nuggets, or place one at each place setting. You could even give pass them out as your guests leave. If you’re good with ‘crowd breaker’ kinds of activities… these would be a great way to have a bit of meaningful fun at your party.
