  • Package of Pencils (Round sides are preferable to the non-roll type — I got mine at the Dollar Tree.  Their black eraser heads were perfect for my project!)
  • Decorator or Scrapbooking Paper (Mine came from Michael’s.)
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint Brush for Mod Podge
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

Directions

  • Lay your pencil on a piece of decorator/scrapbooking paper.
  • Position your pencil so the edge of the wood is butting to the metal eraser holder on the pencil at the finished edge of your paper as shown.
  • Make a mark on the paper at the end of the pencil so you know where to cut the paper.
How to create a custom decorator pencil tutorial
  • Repeat several times.
  • Then, using those pencil marks and a ruler, draw a cutting line down your paper.
  • Cut the paper at the cutting line.
  • Then roll your pencil in the paper to see how much is required to completely wrap it.  Mine needed about 1 1/16″ to cover the pencil with a wee overlap.
  • Mark your paper accordingly, use your ruler to draw lines and then, cut your paper into strips as shown here.

What a fabulous gift it would make as well for your favorite pencil pusher, teacher, student, or crafter.

And one more thing…

A Tip for Keeping Your Mod Podge Brush Flexible!

Tip for keeping your brush flexible when crafting with Mod Podge
The best tips are super easy and make a world of difference.

My last few projects using Mod Podge I did something I’ve never done before.  I used a small piece of plastic wrap to cover my brush every. single. time. I put my brush down… even if it was just for 10 seconds.

Just that little trick keep my brush from getting sticky and glumpy. It’s something I always do when I’m painting the house… so I thought it might just be the trick and it was!!

The next time you get out your Mod Podge and brush, get out some plastic wrap too. You’ll be glad you did!

So there you have it!  A fun and easy customized decorator pencil tutorial.

Just a warning… it’s so fun and easy you won’t be able to stop!  Good thing pencils and paper are so inexpensive!

    • What a great idea!! Be sure to let them dry well… Mod Podge has a tendency to be a little sticky.
