One Year Blogiversary :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Thanks for coming by today to help me celebrate this momentous occasion!

I hope you were blessed yesterday by our special guest, Melissa from The Inspired Room.  What a treat!

We’ve been talking about extraordinary friendship and friends the past few days…

One of my favorite things to do is to gather my friends, set a pretty table, and enjoy light refreshments and good conversation.  So if you will indulge me today, I’ve set the small sideboard in the sun room for an intimate gathering of four.  The perfect size for chatting.  Friendship & Tea.

Banana Bread Recipe :: AnExtraordianryDay.net

I’ve brought out the cocoa set which you might remember from St. Patrick’s Day.  Since the violets are blooming in the lawn, I thought this set would be perfect for the occasion.  These lovely white French plates decorated with violets do not match the cocoa set, but I think they coordinate rather nicely.  And they are just right for our banana bread and pastries.

Violets Tea Set :: AnExtraordianryDay.net

Though this is an official cocoa set, I think we can enjoy using it for coffee or tea.  Which would you prefer?   Me?  I’ll choose tea.   One of my favorite teas in the winter is chai, but I’ve been enjoying green tea lately.  It’s nice and light for spring.

Since the budget is quite tight these days I wasn’t able to purchase any flowers for our table.  However, just the other day I noticed a single clump of purple Johnny Jump-ups blooming along side the house.  They weren’t there last year and have somehow managed to push up through the well weeded mulch.  I stepped outside in the drizzle and popped them out of the ground and planted them in this silver sugar pot.  I love how God provides even the littlest of things to show His love for us.  What a wonderful blessing.  And they are just the perfect color for our tea.

Tea Time & Violas :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

I am a bit disappointed in myself that I had forgotten to pick violets from our chemical free lawn to sprinkle on our plates.   After the bread was eaten, the teapot emptied, and my sneaky cats had nibbled the flowers off the potted plant, I remembered.  Please forgive me.  It certainly helps me appreciate those who never miss a single detail.  Don’t you appreciate it when your hostess is thoughtful and creative?  I do, it makes me feel really special.  Now I need to say one thing…I know that when it comes to friendship & tea…it’s the friendship that counts the most and these other little things…they are the sugar sprinkles in life.  I think we love them because our beautiful world is full of them.  Just look at all the spring blossoms erupting around us.

Friendship Tea & Banana Bread :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Lately I’ve been experimenting with a new banana bread recipe which we have come to love at our house.  Now I hope you don’t get upset with me…but I think this post will be too long if I go on to talk about it and share the recipe, too.   I know, I know the first photo was about friendship & tea & banana bread.  I tease.  I hope you’ll forgive me and come back tomorrow for the super easy, yummy recipe.  Okay?

Thanks for coming by today and enjoying our little virtual tea time.  Sometimes, we just need to get together to celebrate the good things in our lives, to share our hurts, and to just be.  It refreshes our spirits and bonds us together.  That’s an extraordinary friendship & tea time.

Today’s Extraordinary & Inspiring Giveaway!

One of my favorite extraordinary bloggers, Marian aka Miss Mustard Seed, painter of furniture and all things creative, published a book that made its debut this past November, “Inspired You: Breathing New Life into Your Heart and Home.”  The book is filled with beautiful inspiring photos like her living room in this photo and Marian even shares how to’s including a tutorial to make the ottoman you see here:

Miss Mustard Seed's Living Room - Ottoman

Raise your hand.  Who needs a little bit of inspiration for their heart and home?  Yup.  I thought so.  So many times we get ‘stuck in the mud’ or maybe we get stuck in Pinterest.  Miss Mustard Seed wants you and me to make a home that tells our families’ stories.  Not a home that looks like a magazine…but a home that represents our hearts and souls.  I love that.  That’s what an extraordinary home looks like.

Miss Mustard Seed - Inspired You - Book Cover -1400320887

And that’s why I asked Marian if she would giveaway one of her books to a lucky reader for my blogiversary.  I know the book has been out for a little bit.  But, most of us have good intentions and just don’t get around to things like ordering a book, no matter how fabulous it is…and it is.  Any guilty parties here?  If you can’t wait to win a book…order yours here.

It’s easy to enter this giveaway….

And grew in stature and favor with God and my teachers!!

    • Diane says

    – The Tablescaper

    • Diane says

      Thanks Friend. That means a lot coming from extraordinary YOU!

  19. What a GREAT idea to capture those Johnny Jump Ups to grace your table!!! You have an eagle eye there!!! And it was even MORE creative to plant them in the sugar pot! Very Victorian!!! 🙂

    Don’t worry that you forgot to add a few violets. We ALL forget things until after the fact! Just wait ’til you get old like me…you’ll forget EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME!!!!! 🙂

    Thank you for sharing your beautiful tea with all of us! Have a wonderful week, and Happy Blogiversary!!! ( I would have left a comment telling why I’m extraordinary, but I couldn’t think of anything! I’m just kinda…here! Nothing out of the ordinary great about me at all! Kind of pitiful, actually! ) 🙂

    • Diane says

      Oh my goodness Alycia. You just left the sweetest most encouraging remarks. You are the ultimate tablescaper. And you are a child of God. Now, my friend…just those three things alone are a few of ‘many’ ways you ARE extraordinary!! [hugs]

  20. Kitty says

    I love your tea table, the delicious looking banana bread and the pretty pics of it all! Happy Blogiversary to you. What a lovely giveaway! Why am I extraordinary…hmmm, I just keep plugging along, keeping a smile on my face and trying my best to be kind and care for others. Not exactly extraordinary, but trying to do my best.

    • Diane says

      Thank you so much Kitty!
      Ah….just the fact that you have a great attitude and think of others first means…you ARE extraordinary!! [hugs]

  21. Such a beautiful tea! I love the purple violas and the lovely tea set!!! Congratulations on your Blogiversary!!!! YEA!!! LOVE Miss Mustard Seed’s book. Thanks for the giveaway.

  22. I drool every time I see your chocolate set, it is beautiful!

    • Diane says

      Awwww….thank you Marigene!! I’m glad to be enjoying it after having it out of sight for several years.
      Blessings!

  23. I liked you on facebook Diane. Of course “I liked” you before 🙂

  24. I loved the photos of your tea party. How the set and plates didn’t exactly match, but were meant to be together. I love Johnny Jump ups. For years, I thought that johnny jump up was my mother in law’s private pet name for the darling little flowers. So I think of her whenever I see them (or they’re mentioned).

    I’m wracking my brain for extra-ordinariness. Beyond-ordinariness. Which really, if you think about it, we all are. Like snowflakes or fingerprints…in the end none of us are the same; each are remarkable. But. Me, specifically? I’ll pick this one: the capacity to see people. To want to know them inside and out. Also, I have a great memory for random, unimportant plant relationships. Like did you know that Russian olives and lilacs are related? And roses and raspberries (and apples!) are distant cousins. For some reason, these relationships delight me.

    Happy blogiversary! Your blog is lovely. Lynaea @ EveryDayBloom.com

    • Diane says

      I love your “extraordinariness” Lynaea!!
      Thanks you your sweet story…love it…and your warm words.
      You ARE Extraordinary!!

  25. What makes ME special??? Well, I take time for people and I think for myself.

    Thank you too for your sweet comment on my blog, Di. It’s nice you appreciate things I do for readers. And you’re welcome to all of it!

    Happy anniversary to you!

      Hope your day is Extraordinary Rose!

  27. Mel says

    I just adore that set–and the plates are perfect for the table. And I could sooooooo see me with my little garden shovel, digging up the yard to plop flowers in a sugar bowl. *laughing* I’ll have to see if there’s anything out there that can visit the house. Geeze, I better hurry up and do that before the snow starts…..YES, SNOW! Which means I’d be just fine with tea of hot cocoa, tyvm…..but gosh, I’d hate to disturb the prettiness you have set up there! I’m amazed at how you transform that wee spot, over and over again. How can anyone pull up a chair and not be wowed by the efforts you’ve gone to to make the moment special.
    Notsomuch me! LOL I still have bunny placemats down in the coffee nook. LOLOL Right….I’ll rectify that soon!

    What’s extraordinary about the house? None of that’s probably my doing….more so the fella that’s got a whole basement filled with a wee train complete with villages and farms..it goes allllll the way around the room and puffs smoke and clangs its bell and is just a lovely, relaxing place to descent into with your visitors–with a mug of coffee and some nibbling things tossed in, it’s a great little place to just sit, watch and wander to take in the details.
    *snickering* I put the wee penguins in the ice house. They belonged there! 😉

    • Diane says

      I think you two just might be having the time of your lives….except for those crutches that keep getting in the way. 😉 I’m pretty certain bunny placemats are okay….they sure are hopping around our neighborhood these days. Then again…maybe you should put out the ones that say winter… um. Maybe that wasn’t so funny. ;/
      Hope your day is extraordinary! I’m pretty sure it will. 😀

  28. Congratulations on your anniversary. This is great news for you and your blog! The warm weather and sunshine make my house extraordinary! Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Diane says

      Thank you DeDe!!
      Hope your day is Extraordinary, too!

  29. Happy Blogaversary my sweet friend. How nice to see Marian featured here today. Oh how I wish I was at that beautiful table with you. You know I am a happy follower xo

    • Diane says

      Thank you Katie!!
      Your word picture of the rainbow light sounds lovely!!

    Diane! You knocked the ball outta the park this time! Wow! I am a lover of tea & all its accoutrements, beautiful table settings, pretty vignettes where least expected & inspirational writings. Guess we’re soulmates & didn’t know it. Someday soon all God’s children will be united in the biggest event of them all; God’s table will be sublime!
    I’ve often wondered if God will allow me to have a little corner in His home, somewhere that I can decorate just as I would like, w/o financial limitations. What fun that would be!
    Congratulations on this momentous landmark of 1 whole year of blogging! Blessings always!
