Easter…

Eggs.  Baskets.  Candy.  Flowers.  Blessings.

Easter is the most meaningful holiday our family celebrates.  And though we enjoy the traditions of eggs, baskets, candy, flowers, and blessings….for us….it’s all about the cross. Friday we remembered the ultimate sacrifice by a Father and His Son….because of their amazing love for each of us.  The best part is that the story doesn’t end there…Sunday is a ‘comin’!

While we are sandwiched between those two extraordinary days,
preparing for the most important celebration of the year…
I thought I’d take a moment and share a quick snapshot of a corner in my sun room.

Easter Thoughts, Sun Room Snapshot :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Last week I set up my table for spring and talked about it here.  It’s ready and waiting for the two of us to enjoy our Easter dinner.

I’m going to admit that I’ve struggled decorating the sun room.  Living in limbo is challenging.  But, one thing is for sure…this little corner is colorful!  Yellow is my favorite (right now, anyway) and I’ve certainly splashed it around the room….”painting” with broad strokes.  It’s certainly a happy place and puts a smile on my face whenever I walk by. What’s funny, is that as I tap this out and look at the photos, several ideas come to mind.  Hmm…  Maybe I will need to do another post on Monday.   Are you up for seeing an enhanced version of the same?   Maybe we should call it metamorphosis.  [smiling]

If you’re a regular reader, you know there is always a story associated with my decor.
So let’s get on with it!

Aren’t the forsythia in the Longaberger Woven Pitcher gorgeous?  They are faux.  I know, it’s hard to believe.  Those sunny branches have been a spring staple for at least seven years.  For a few years they decorated my office cubbie at spring and people marveled at how lovely they were, thinking they were fresh blooms.  When I informed them otherwise, gals would touch them in unbelief to confirm my story.

This past year has been my foray into the world of  found treasures.

The shabby wicker chair was picked up dumpster diving this winter.  Actually my tall husband could just reach in and pick it out.  Haha!   A little refreshing with a coat of paint and it will be even prettier.

This tall rabbit is a favorite of ours.  What is there about verdigris that makes me swoon?  He was one of those deals that you happen upon.  You know the day after Easter half-off, and then the store announces that they are going half-off again in the next ten minutes.  $80 down to $20….score.  Three state moves and this bunny is still looking pretty smug.

Then there’s all that handwoven Longaberger Basket goodness.  These two Easter Baskets are my favorites for their color and shape.  I guess you’ll just have to figure out which is which.  Aren’t I a tease?!

And then do you spy that cute bucket with the yellow ribbon.  My friend stopped over today and brought it with her.  It’s filled with yummy looking chocolate or malted milk eggs.  Anyone want to guess how long it will be before we break in to it?

So there you have it.  A bright and whimsical corner in my sun room. It occurs to me, that had there not been a cross and a Savior willing to pay the price for my sin, there would be no reason for me to get excited about creating a lovely joyful spot in my home.   The cross changed everything.  Forever.   Thank you Jesus!

The Week at a Glance 3-30 :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Here are this week’s posts…
  1. Palm Sunday :: Joy Day!
  2. Celebrate :: Free Subway Art Easter Printable
  3. Jesus’ Last Words

It’s been an another Extraordinary week on the blog.

We started the week celebrating Palm Sunday with palm photos taken at Phipps Conservatory and scripture.  Later in the week I shared a subway printable I created to celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection.  Good Friday came and as I was reading the account in the Bible I felt compelled to create a brief post for mediation.

Except for the snow.  Will it ever end?  It’s been a good week.   You make my day when you stop by, leave your thoughtful remarks, and even share and pin the posts you like.   Thank you.   Hugs to each of you who make this feel like a chat and not me just tapping words into space.

Thank you to the following lovely places for featuring An Extraordinary Day this week:

  4. Lovely, Diane! Such a beautiful reflection on the joy of our risen Savior, and a lovely place in which to reflect! I enjoyed learning about each piece and how it came into your life. I will have to have my husband read this so he realizes I’m not the only person who brings “trash” home.

    Happy Easter!

Awwww….you are so sweet Jessica! Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of Lights…. I receive each gift gladly…even from a dumpster. 🙂
Seriously…I am a wee bit sentimental with my things. I think that is because I have almost no family and my treasures represent relationships…which is really what I treasure.
May you and your family have a blessed Resurrection Celebration!

  5. Without the ultimate sacrifice, we would have no occasion for joy. Love your sweet retreat.

  9. What a beautiful sun room and it was fun to hear the story behind each pretty thing. It’s always so wonderful to feel that we found a treasure without spending a lot of money. Thank you for sharing your faith, too, and I wholeheartedly agree that while it’s fun to celebrate with bunnies and eggs, the real significance is the life we have because of Christ’s resurrection. Blessings!

Very nice. I love the last words of Christ. “It is finished.” Good job, Lord. 🙂 Yea, good job – creating the universe and holding all the planets in their place, etc. etc Why be serious, when you can add some humor. When we get to Heaven we’ll have a good laugh, I’m sure. Jesus is Lord. Linda

Awww…thanks Kathy!! That bunny has been putting a smile on my face for a long time. Since you’ve seen him last I did break into the little pail of malted Easter eggs and the pretty yellow bow it was tied up with is now gracing Mr. Bunny’s neck. Just the springy touch for Mr. Handsome Bunny.
      Blessings!
