Laundry

Do you love it or hate it?

Not long ago we had some work done in our basement.  You may remember my unpleasant experience with the digging machine.  When that work was nearly completed I decided that I wanted to throw some paint on the walls in my laundry room.  Ahem, closet.  The washer and dryer were out of their tiny space and so it seemed that as the cement flooring was drying I should seize the day.  Or in this case, the night.  This was a busy time for me.  I was creating decor for our church’s summer vacation Bible school.  In my mind, time was of the essence, so early evening on the way home from church I stopped by Lowe’s and looked at paint samples.  And decided, right then and there, on a lovely, barely-there yellow, and got the first coat up that night.   When my mind is made up, I get to work.

Since that painting frenzy, the closet doors have been removed (I have plans for those doors!) and the opening enlarged so that the washer and dryer could be slid into place.   Another coat of paint has gone on the walls and the washer and dry were nestled back in place.  It already looks 500 percent better.   With my now pale yellow blank slate, it is time for some decor!  And just where does a gal turn when she wants inspiration?  Pinterest!

Gorgeous Laundry with Amazing Sink

Recently I posted about my addiction to  love of Pinterest.  And I mentioned that I would be back to share with you one of the ways that I find Pinterest useful.   Aren’t you lucky?  Today is the day!

I created a Pinterest Board ~ Inspired to do Laundry.   You might want to check it out.  But, there is a caveat.   I did not pin lots and lots of beautiful laundry rooms.  I pinned a few.  I restrained myself.  After all, I don’t have a room.  I have a closet.  And frankly that is a bit limiting.   Um, actually, I have the hallway outside of the closet to play with as well.  But, it is still a wee space.

To begin…the two previous photos are my “if I could have the laundry room of my dreams” photos.  These would pretty much qualify.

There are two shelves over my washer and dryer.  Behind me, when I face those two remarkable workhorses, is a now blank wall which, until the kind gentle man I married carefully removed it for me, was embellished with a wallpaper border of swans.  And though my name is Swan son…the swans had to go.  Everything is now ready for my touches.  Pretty exciting, huh?

What did I find Pinteresting?

Some fancy letters spelling W-A-S-H.   Not that I need help with spelling – Heehee!  Aren’t they pretty?

Then I spied this.  How fun!

Use vintage trouser hangers to hold up photographs of art.  And it isn’t a real laundry without a washboard too!

Life as a Thrifter

And I have a small stash of these, too!  And a washboard.  And a copper boiler.

I just may have the start of something fun.

To the right of the washer and dryer I have a small space and so when I saw this lovely room I fell.  In.  Love.   Okay…I like the low shelves.  And I have a little inset area too.  I just might be able to add shelves like that.

Beachy & Blue & White Laundry Room

I have a few other ideas up my sleeve and they involve some fabric I thrifted a few months ago, lots of blue canning jars, and more than a few Longaberger Baskets.  As soon as it starts coming together, I bet you’re going to want to see it?  Yes?

Do you have a pretty laundry area?

What helps you tackle those mounds of dirty clothes?

I’m not sure that a gorgeous laundry area is going to make me eager to Wash. Dry. Fold. Repeat.  But, it surely is going to make the task much more pleasant.  And cheerful.  And I’ll get to decorate with a few things that have been stashed away in boxes.  I’m getting excited!!!!

What are you finding Pinteresting these days?

Have you created a project or inspiration board?

Happy Washing!

  1. Hi Diane!
I actually find doing laundry {wash, dry and FOLD/HANG — so many leave that last part out!} relaxing. Perhaps because it’s a mindless task that lets me focus on other things and ideas while I’m doing it or maybe because I am down to just 3 people in the house. I too have a small designated area {the laundry room aka the dark hole} and look forward to redoing it. Your images are inspiring. I look forward to seeing your finished space!

    • Hi Deborah!
Glad you enjoy doing your laundry. :D Especially when it is a never ending task. Actually I really don’t mind it. My corner could just be a bit prettier and that would certainly make the task more pleasant. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind comments.
      Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

  2. Hi Diane,

I just moved into a new to me house and the laundry room is currently just 4 freshly painted white walls with a pale aqua ceiling. I am loving all this pinspiration! :)

Thank you for joining in on the party. It is held every Friday. If you are short on time just post one picture. But I love that you share WHY you selected your images. :)

    Be blessed!

    • Oh Laura, an aqua ceiling sounds fun! A great place to spring from for sure!
I know the moving drill too well. We moved 9 months ago and still have things to do.
Thanks for stopping by and for your encouragement.
Enjoy your unpacking and projects. I look forward to seeing the lovely results.

  3. Laundry is not my thing! I have a bed full of laundry to fold as I sit here on the computer. Our laundry room is actually not a room but rather the basement. If I’m honest, I doubt a nice room would inspire me to stay on top of the laundry. However, I’d love to give it a try! I did pin where somewhere painted their washing machine a few days ago and have been quite intrigued by that idea.

    • Hi Jean!
I think I saw that pin too! The washer and dryer were painted red. I’d mess it up for sure! LOL!
A nice room may or may not inspire you or even me to stay on top of the laundry. But at least it will make it a bit more pleasant. I hope!!
Thanks for stopping by! Hope your week is Extraordinary!!!

  4. Hi Diane! I too have a laundry “closet” – mine has bifold doors… I totally need to spruce mine up but for now it’s waaaaay down on my to-do list so until that time I will just sit and admire the lovely photos you’ve pinned and dream :-) Thanks for sharing such fun inspiration!

    • Hi Jennifer!
I used to grumble about the condition of my laundry ‘closet.’ So, when the opportunity presented itself I thought I’d better act fast. Sometimes that’s the best way to get a project started! :D
Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by.

  5. Hi Diane,
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and commenting.

You have some lovely inspirations for the laundry room. That’s one room I need to tackle. Mine is a fair size but oh sooo boring, I need all the ideas I can get!

    • Nicole…Thank YOU for returning the favor! Sometimes a little inspiration is all we need to set our sails.
      Hope your day was Extraordinary!

  6. Hi Diane!
It was fun reading your blog about laundry. I actually like doing laundry. It’s the one thing I “do” that I don’t really “do” !! The washer and dryer/clothesline do it all for me. I grew up getting my hand smashed through the wringer on our wringer washer! Can you imagine going to a stream with a wash board!?! Household tasks are so easy now. It sure would be nice to have a beautiful laundry room, and I linger over all the decorator photos on Pinterest and in magazines, too. I’m sure your closet is so inviting, that it just speaks, “Please come in and “do” your wash here and stay awhile.” Yet most of all, I think that the laundry area needs to be efficient–a space that works. Happy washing!
    Claudia

    • Hi Claudia!
Are you glad we don’t have to deal with wringer washers any more? If we did, you’d for sure be ‘doing’ the laundry. My little closet isn’t too inviting, yet. But, the cheery buttery yellow is a great beginning. You are so right about the efficiency thing. That’s huge for me too!
Hope your next laundry day is Extraordinary!

  7. I LOVE doing laundry. It is such a part of my routine that one of my requirements in a vacation rental home or condo is a washer and dryer. I have a routine of starting my first load with the sheets off my bed and then I do at least two more loads every day and it is just my husband and I at home now. I love knowing that whatever I want to wear is clean and in its place and that there are fresh sheets on my bed every night and I always have a pretty stack of towels and washcloths waiting for me in my bathroom. I have a small laundry room but the color is pretty and it does the job.

    • Oh Sandy, that sounds wonderful. I’d love to live at your house!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment!
      Hope your week is Extraordinary!!!
