Character :: AnExtraordinaryDay.net

When I came across this character quote I immediately identified with it.

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.”  – Helen Keller

It might not seem helpful, nor is it pleasant to go through a patch of trying circumstances.  But somewhere in the midst, it does help me to know that something good will come of these trials.  That I will be a better person because of it. At the very least I believe I will be more compassionate of others suffering through difficulties.

Most of us want to ‘be of good character.’  But, none of us wants to pay the price for it.  Maybe this character quote by Helen Keller will give you the encouragement you need today to stay the course.

I love the thought that our souls are strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved as a result.

Here’s a rundown of this week’s posts…

  1. Beauty is God’s Handwriting :: Emerson Quote :: The Week at a Glance 8/17
  2. Sing and Make Music :: Joy Day!
  3. Easy Watermelon Cookies
  4. Coastal Vignette :: DIY Seascape Painting

It was another Extraordinary Week on the blog!

We wrapped up the week with a quote from Emerson which encouraged us to take in the beauty around us.  On Joy Day! we received inspiration from one of the Psalms and together we counted seven blessings from our week.  My friend made these delightful watermelon cookies which I couldn’t resist sharing with you.  Mmm…Good!  And then we finished up the week in coastal style!  I even created a painting to help us pretend we went to the beach. [wink]

Humbled and blessed.

As I’m only participating in a very few blog parties, I again was pleasantly surprised to discover the blog was  featured in a round-up here:

On a Personal Note

Do you ever feel like some weeks whiz by so quickly you’d think that somewhere someone is pushing the accelerator button?  [wink]  Yeah.  My week was like that.  The days have just mooshed together.  And even though I’m attempting to maintain order in my home, chaos has erupted and my house is looking like a messy warehouse with stray packing peanuts everywhere.  [sigh]

We’re grateful that we have secured some storage units and Monday, with the help of two friends, we will be starting to move our household.  The other night I was talking with a friend and I realized that in the last 18 years I’ve averaged a move every three years, with most being state to state moves.   I’m so glad that we had an eleven year stint before our last move.   For a girl who thought that the house she had built at age 25 would be her ‘forever’ home…this has been character building.

One week from today, everything should be packed into our storage units and we’ll be on the road to Michigan. Your prayers mean so much.  If you would, please pray for safety and strong backs for moving, for me to work a little faster and get the packing done ahead of schedule, and for our cats who are already stressed out with the chaos.  And, of course, for a good job for my husband.  Very soon.  Thanks sweet friends for your kind comments and your prayers.  It means the world to us.  Truly.

I can’t wait to show you some coastal decorating I did in my sunroom.  But, since I have no idea how the week will shape up, if you’re not seeing anything here….pop over to our Facebook page each day.  And help me celebrate my birthday there on Friday. During my breaks I’ll be posting updates and extraordinary loveliness, at least that’s my plan.

So now that I’ve shared my week…please fill me in with what’s been happening with you.

At the very least…tell me your last week of summer plans.

Wishing you an Extraordinary weekend!

Diane
