You can create fun, whimsical, home decor for St. Patrick's Day for pennies.  And it's quick and easy, too! I've been having the most fun transforming this wall and cast-off table for the different seasons and holidays.  All on a super small budget. You're going to love all these super easy ideas that you can duplicate, too.     Let's start with the items on the table top. Books are a great way to frame objects that would otherwise seem to be floating in space.  They serve two purposes.  One... to give some additional height and two... to give substance or weight to the … [Read more...]

It's been a while since I have been totally excited about something I've created. This Easter centerpiece and tablescape are my very favorite. I cannot express the happiness I feel every time I walk in the room.     It's the result of a monthly blogging challenge that I do with a group of bloggers to Make Something From Nothing.  It's all about being creative with the gifts and talents our Creator has given us and using what we have in hand.  Some of us have more on hand than others. Mine usually begin with a trip to my recycling bin.     This particular … [Read more...]

Today I want to show you a fun and Inexpensive Winter Vignette that evokes a soft and cozy feeling and can be put together for just pennies.     Once we had our little Valentine's Day celebration with our neighbor kids, I was so ready to switch up the wall and side table in my living room. When I first put it together I absolutely loved it and it made me smile every time I walked in the door. But, once Valentine's Day was over... I was ready to get my creativity on and have fun making over that spot.     One of my favorite color combinations is really not … [Read more...]

Hello, friends!  Thanks for coming by!   Happy Pre-Valentine's Day! Sunday night we had our two neighbor kids over for a Valentine Sunday supper.  It was so fun.  My table was set similarly to the quick and easy Valentine's Day table I shared on the blog last week.  You should have seen the kids' eyes when they saw the table.  We had such a good time and they were so well behaved at the table and enjoyed the simple meal so much.  It was a kid-friendly meal, but the presentation made it taste so much better.  I'm sure they felt loved and isn't that what Valentine's Day is really all about … [Read more...]

Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but my dear husband and I aren't very romantic. I think I would like it if he was and I think he'd like it if I was. But we aren't. Not that we haven't tried.     In our early years, we thought we were being romantic by purchasing pretty new sheets for our anniversary. We'd go out to dinner dressed to the nines. We've had fancy foods at our bedside.  And my dear husband has sent me countless gorgeous floral bouquets. All romantic sounding things to do.... but bells don't ring and birds don't sing. He brings me flowers and … [Read more...]

I did it!!  I decorated a spot in my home with a Valentine's Day theme using leftovers, something thrifted, something upcycled, a few of nature's elements, and all topped off with a few items from the "dollar" aisle.  It's colorful, a wee bit whimsical, graphic, and makes me smile.  And I had another excuse to use my new roadside rescue side table.   Now, I have to tell you, I didn't plan to decorate for Valentine's Day in such a big way. My original plan was to make a sweater wreath and place it on my new rustic door that I had propped up on my new whitewashed table and create a … [Read more...]

If a TV reporter were to stop you on the street and thrust a microphone in your face and ask you what you're thankful for this Thanksgiving... what would be your answer? We often talk about gratitude here and how a thankful heart is a happy heart.     As I was editing photos today I was thinking about Thanksgiving and the pilgrims' first Thanksgiving dinner that my second-grade class reenacted on the stage of an old gym with the slippery brown linoleum floor.  A long table was placed on the stage and set with food.  I'm not sure if every student dressed in pilgrim clothing, but … [Read more...]

Have you started dreaming pumpkins?   Maybe it's a little early for you, but pumpkins in all colors and sizes are starting to pop up at the grocery stores and farmers' markets.  Most years I am partial to the bright orange orbs, but I have been known to bring home a white pumpkin or two, as well.  Even more than decorating with pumpkins... eating goodies made with pumpkin is high on my list for what I love about fall.  As a non-coffee drinker, I'm not usually thinking pumpkin spice lattes, but I am pretty excited to have a slice of pumpkin pie.  Oh yum! If you're looking for ideas that aren't as … [Read more...]

Hello friends!  Thanks for coming by! I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was picture perfect!  I even enjoyed spending some time at the beach checking out the flying antics of some expert kite flyers at our local kite festival.  The wind was mostly perfect and the sunshine warmed me to my core.  My face got a little sunburned... but it was so worth it.     Mother's Day comes at one of my most favorite times of the year... flower planting time. If I could give Mom the ultimate gift for her special day, I'd create an English cottage-style garden with a white picket fence filled with all her favorite pretty flowers. It would be so fun to design, shop for, and create. Around Mother's Day all the garden shops and greenhouses are brimming over with the most beautiful flowers and plants of the season.  All that goodness makes my heart swell with joy and anticipation.  I don't know that there is anything I like better than to go greenhouse … [Read more...]
