Autumn has unofficially arrived!

Each morning I get up in the dark and sit with my chair facing the window to the East, drinking my Chai, and drinking in the quiet and HIS “still small voice.”

The nearby fields are coloring golden and heavy with dew as that first light magnifies in each tiny droplet.

What a contrast from last Fall in the mountains of Pennsylvania where the day begins shrouded in fog.

I am seizing the beauty around me in this new season of my life….and the year.

One of the things about Fall Nesting is the aromas.  I love it when my husband comes home and says, “The house smells wonderful!”

Today there is a chicken is roasting in the oven.

Do you know what that means?

At our house we simmer the bones from the roasted chicken along with onions and celery for 48 hours for the richest broth.  Yum!

What comes next?  Soup!

There’s a huge Butternut Squash sitting on the counter destined for a delicious creamy soup.  I can hardly wait.  I hope you like a rich and creamy squash soup.

In anticipation, I set this old rustic table for a simple fall luncheon.  It’s ready for the two of us to sit down and indulge our taste buds in the flavors of Fall!  Mmm. Mmm. Mmm!

I enjoy creating a tablescape that can be used all week long, or longer.
This is not an extravagant tablescape.  It’s just a simple assembly, for a simple fall luncheon.

The foundation of this simple scape is a handmade sampler I wove years ago on an old-fashioned floor loom.  You just might be able to see the different patterns in the sampler turned table runner.

Simple Fall Luncheon | Mums & Eupatorium Floral Arrangement in Longaberger Basket | AnExtraordinaryDay.net

Even a simple rustic meal of soup requires flowers.  I filled my Longaberger Biscuit Basket with some bronze-colored silk mums from my stash.  I bet you didn’t realize they were faux flowers.  The tiny white flowers are fresh from my garden…Chocolate Eupatorium. (Yes, I know they are white not chocolate, ahem, that’s a topic for another day.)  These fresh flowers will last several days in this spot… and now you know one of my secrets.

The Butternut-colored Soup Bowls are Longaberger Woven Traditions in the Woven Reflections pattern, they are no longer in the line and are a favorite of mine in shape and color.  The colorful dessert plates were a favor from a luncheon I attended several years ago.  They sit on the Longaberger Woven Traditions Luncheon Plates in Paprika.  Don’t you think my soup will look truly delectable ladled into those bowls, resting on these colorful plates?

The napkins, from Longaberger also, are in Paprika and are a perfect match to the plates.  I folded the large napkins to form a pocket to hold a soup spoon and dessert fork.  These pieces were my mom’s silverplate for special occasions…. like you joining me for homemade soup.  I topped the napkin with an faux leaf.  Simple. Clean. Festive.

The golden goblets are the finishing touch.  These came from a neighbor.  I wish I knew what pattern they are, but I haven’t been able to find out in all my online searching.

So there you have it.

A simple Fall luncheon tablesetting.

Just a bit of eye candy to enjoy while we await our creamy squash soup.

I have a great recipe.  Maybe you would like me to share that on another day?

What one thing do you do to change-up your table for Fall?

This post is an updated post from last fall.  As I navigate this “inbetween” time I thought it would be fun to revisit a few posts that speak to living an extraordinary life in both richness and simplicity.  Whether creating delicious aromas, or setting inviting tables, fall nesting is about setting the stage for creating memories, enjoying relationships, and taking time to breathe in the richness of the season.

Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!

  3. Dona says

Right now my table is covered with fabric that is in the processes of becoming a baby quilt! Yes, I have a craft room. I just can’t GET to the table in there! Soon, soon. I’ve put up all my other fall decorations…..with my 11 year old granddaughter’s help! Fall is the BEST…..even in Arizona. The colored leaves are in my mind, however! Oh, and a LOVE a good soup! Will be waiting for your recipe!

    • Diane says

Haha! You just need a bigger craft room! [wink] When I craft…I’ve been known to “take over” the entire house. I so understand. How fun to be creating a family treasure. 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to chat…Dona!!
      [hugs]

  8. Mel says

“…..creating memories, enjoying relationships, and taking time to breathe in the richness of the season -” You said that very poetically. Oh, how quickly we can lose that focus. There’s a challenge for us all as we move into the season, huh?
The rustic table with the light and shadows–the perfect spot to sup with that pretty little place setting. Love the simplicity of the one leaf on the napkins.
You made that runner? You MADE that?!?! Wow…….Your talents are unceasing and amazing. It’s perfect with the bowls, plates and flowers. And hopefully no one is a messy eater like they are in this house. LOLOL

I did drag out a fall table cloth and the place mats. I put them on the table but not ON the table. LOL Can’t–seems to be the place to ‘catch things’ while I’m camped out on the couch, healing. (I can’t quite sit at the table yet–*sigh* This too shall happen in G-d’s time and the surgeon’s time…..they can duke it out! LOL)
I did snag a fall place mat for the coffee table (that’s my spot for meals as of this moment). and I’ve got a plan with baskets to hide the pharmacy that’s collected on the same table.
*laughing* Decorating for convalescing folks! I’m sure there’s a website for that. I’ll search! 😉
In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the pretties and dream a bit.

    • Diane says

Oh Mel…Thanks for the kind words. I’ve tried my hand at so many things. I wanted to keep on with the weaving…but have you ever priced a loom? Yeah…it wasn’t happening. But, at the very least I have a pretty runner to use for all kinds of things. 😉
I love that you’re making yourself a fall spot on the coffee table. And the pharmacy…ugh…it’s so necessary…but no one wants to stare at that all day. 😉
Please do keep dreaming… And as you do…healing is on its way…as well as sitting at a real table. 🙂
Praying for your daily, my friend!
      ~Diane
